Why Mathews, Hoyt, Pse!
First of all I like to say HI to every one! Now I will put my 2 cents in which doesn't amount to a sack of beans. Matthews, Hoyt, PSE, Bowtech, Oneida, Martin, Darton, High country, Browning, Bear, Golden Eagle, Champion, Reflex, and on and on! Look people we are the reason why these companies sell these bows yes Mathews, Hoyt, Bowtech, get the most for there bows because most of us are dumb enough to pay for them because like one person said I can and that's what they like to hear so they keep coming out every year with something new! Nothing really changes from year to year they change the color and a few more ball bearing put on a different string and so on! I say if you like Archery it doesn't matter what you use as long as when you use in you can hit your mark!
Here's a little info from me after I shot some new high tech and some older bows!
Mathews I have shot the 2004 Outback yes its smooth and fast but its not better then a SQ2 in my eyes that's one of the best bows Mathews has made just because it not this year model people have sold there SQ2 and have not been happy! If I was to buy a Mathews I would buy a SQ2 over a Outback and a Legacy!
Hoyt Here's another great company doing the same thing people there new Xtec is made from the same stuff is last year maybe a little different look then last years model but it still does the same thing is it more quieter the then last years not really with string leeches and all the fancy new stuff we have out there for use! I own a Hoyt 2001 Ultra Tec and I have shot a New Xtec I really didn't see a different's. Speed, vibes, and noise level to me was the same!
Bowtech I have a story for you about one of there bows! I am a member of a Mathews dye hard archery club so you know how this story is going to go! Sunday night 3D league one of are members has a Bowtech man a nice bow quiet fast and he was hitting the mark. First place with these bow, then gave into the club bought him self a brand new Mathews Outback. Now he was one of the boys again didn't stay in first place any more but a close second. Now don't get me wrong I like the Outback but I thought the Bowtech this guy had was quieter.
Oneida, Now here's a odd ball bow for you! I own a Oneida Tom Cat that will never leave my side one because my father gave it to me and the other I haven't shot a bow yet that can totally take its place! I have yet had the chance to shoot a Black Eagle and there speed is no longer there selling point as it was in the late 80 and early 90's but they still have the smoothes draw of any bow I have shoot.
PSE the old work horse of Archery been around forever! Quality may have been lost in later years but some of the newer models I have seen look like there coming back to give the big boys a run for there money. My Daughter shoots a PSE bandit 2 and I like it over my sons Pearson Colt. Although my son's Pearson is a much cooler looking bow! (once again buying because of look's and not performents)
Darton makes a good bow I own one that is over 14 years old and I still can pick her up and still shoot bull eyes after bull eyes. She has stood the test time from being movie all over the country and sitting in storage she still comes out and shoots like a dream. Now I will say she isn't as quiet as the newer bows or as light but she does do what she was made for.
Look people I am just as dumb as you and I buy what I can but if we want to keep price down so that we can enjoy archery year after year then stop buying next years model its no better then last years. If you can shoot 12X with your current bow then stick with it and if you can't then I say you need to practice more or check your form, arrows, sight, release and rest they could be your problem and not your bow!
Just my 2 cents and rember I like buying toys just like you!

This old guy has got to agree with you to a large extent. I have an old PSE 2 cam that is the equivalent of the "Deerhunter" model they sell now. It isn't anything fancy! I have updated it with new sights, rest, and quiver. It isn't the fastest thing or the quietest thing around....but it kills deer! So I keep on using it. I have a Parker that is just a few years old that I use too...I like them both.....but just can't give up that old antiquated PSE. Hey, it works for me......as I walk away with money in my pocket!

RE: Why Mathews, Hoyt, Pse!
I have to say, that I believe these top end bows are top end for a reason! I have been fortunate enough to shoot most of the Mathews line, some of the Hoyt line, and so on. I've owned a Legacy, and loved the bow. Decided to get rid of it to try out this new Cam and a 1/2 system. I think that the Hoyt Vipertec I recently owned was pretty nice, but without those factory installed leeches on the bow, it was LOUD!! I've shot the Mathews LX, SQ2, Legacy, and Outback. I must say, that the nicest all around bows I have shot to date is the Bowtech VFT line! I've shot all these bows and nicest ones so far in my opinion are the Bowtech bows. I don't beleive that any of these bows out are the full package like the Bowtechs. You get the speed without the sacrafice of brace height. In my opinion the best bows on the market.

You bring up some good points. Bow prices are expensive and I, for one, wish they were lower.....and, we, as consumers are helping to maintain the cost of some of the more expensive bows
Any bow will only be shot as well as the person releasing the string...etc...
I also agree that there really is not a legitimate reason why a person "needs" to buy a new bow each year. However, I would present to you that there is not a good reason why a person cannot buy one each year if they want to. Some of us enjoy trying out the new offerings from the various bow companies each year. We get a great deal of enjoyment in the refinements that the various companies offer. Are we then at fault for high bow prices? Not in large part as I believe we are a very small percentage of the bow buying population.

In your own replay you stated the fact's "I want and we can" so do we get sucked into buying another bow year after year? Yes we do not that the bow is better then last years model just because its the next year don't get me wrong are bow are far better today then 5 to 10 years ago. My point is if you look at all of are bow today they are all trying to copy each other with out breaking copy right laws. Is one better then the another sure is in the hand's of the person using it!
Most of us buy new bows and then try and sell are bow on to someone else to make are self fell better about what we bought! So in the race of Toys the one who wins is the person who has the money and shouts the loudest about there name brand bow! Doesn't make them better then the next guys bow just someone with a bigger wallet and mouth.
What do I shoot!
Oneida 13yrs
Darton 14yrs
Hoyt Ultra tech 3yrs
Bowtech extreme 1yrs
Mathews 2yrs
Which one do I think is the best all of them! So get off the name brand and shut up and shoot! The best advice I read on this forum is shoot them all and pick the one you like because how it feels not because of you friend or your hunting club!
Just my 2 cents

To further this discussion I am going to bump this over to the bowhunting forum as I am sure you will get more sides to this story.

RE: Why Mathews, Hoyt, Pse!
Well I am one of these guys that helps the archery shops keep the lights on.
My wife bought her first bow this year. She bought a Hoyt Sierra-TEC. After she bought this bow I got the "I wants". So I bought a new Hoyt-TEC. Well a few weeks after I bought the X-TEC, I shot a Darton Typhoon. I traded the X-TEC for the Darton Typhoon on the spot.
My reason? I fell in love with the Typhoon at first draw cycle. The Typhoon is louder & has more hand shock than the X-TEC. The Typhoon in my hands feels better & I shoot it better.
My old bow was a six-year old PSE ThunderBolt. I sold my old bow to a friend.
I will be keeping this Darton Typhoon for several years.

Great point RACK. And if 30 years ago we hadn't tried a new compound where would we be now? Traditional of course. But evidently toycrazy bought a "new age" bow at some point.
But i do agree that we fuel the high prices of new bows, but then again what product don't we?
