My father inlaw ownes the land I hunt on but it's only about 80 acres, only my brother inlaw slug hunts it, he hasnt shot a deer for years. But its all the other jokers around us shooting the heck out of everything. Don't get me wrong the land I'm on is good and getting better every year. But I'm scared every year that the deer I'm trying to get to grow up will wander off during rut and get wasted buy a gun!

I've been hunting for 30yrs + and I can't remember ever wounding any deer or other animal's .I'm not saying I'm perfect ,but I did and do have a lot of respect for my quarry and if I have any doubt's of my shot placement then I don't shoot .I've taken 30 or so deer and never lost a one . My father instilled solid moral's and hunting ethic's on me and I never forgot ,I have missed a few but I'm sure I would know if I hit them .

Someone should post this on a gun sight and see what kind of results you get! In this area I have very little respect for the gun hunters. They use shot gun slugs, most hunt with 5 to 16 guys and shoot anything that moves. I've heard some say more than once that if the deer didnt drop on the spot they must not of hit it, and don't even bother to look for blood.
I wish MN, would do something about this kind of hunting, abolish party hunting or something!
Our bucks are lucky to live to be 2 years old. What do some of the other states out there do? How do we get a change?
Not all gun hunters here are like this, but I think the majority are!

Well, Mr. Bird Hunt Dog, you have just got my goat! I hunt with BOW, RIFLE, PISTOL and SHOTGUN. And I DO NOT have any respect for people like you that call them selves sportsman, hunters are what ever you may call your self.
First there is a long tradition of hunting in a party. The American Indians use to hunt in large party’s, they use to chase down buffalo on horse back in big party’s with bow’s and then with guns after they had acquired them.
Second, our sport has enough problems with the anti hunters, animal rights activist, green peace and the like. We do not need people in our sport fighting amongst themselves, adding fuel the there fire. So I would like to see this forum ban anyone that talks bad about our sport in any way.
Now to give you a little background and let you know were I’m coming from. I’m 41 and started shooting guns when I was about 5 years old. I started hunting with a gun shortly there after. And I started shooting a recurve bow at about 9, I then started shooting a compound bow at 11. At age 12 I started deer hunting and shot my first deer with a bow on my second day out. I’m a Law enforcement officer in a large metro government and I was a Game Warden for 9 years.
P.S. I would like to point out that most the people that I have met are ethical hunters no matter what they use to hunt with. With a few exceptions in every type of hunting method.

I'm sorry if I offended you that wasn't my intension. I just want to know what other states do for deer management? I was pointing out things that happen here were I live,I'mnot saying all gun hunters I'm saying some I've met here witch is a small minority.
I've slug hunted, never will again, Iwould like to try rifle someday.
I'm not anti hunting nothing, but I would like to see some better deer management here! It is mostly farmland with groves here and there when you push it with 10 guys the deer dont have a chance!
I think in South Dakota you enter a lottery for a buck tag, instead of here were you enter for a doe lottery and can shoot a buck either way!
I read through the message you replied on, I'm sorry sometimes things just dont come accross like you wanted them through the internet!

IF YOU HAD 20 PEOPLE IN THAT DRIVE YOU'D BE LUCKY TO GET MAYBE 5 DEER COME OUT INTO SHOOTING RANGE, AND NOT ONE OF THEM WOULD BE A MATURE BUCK. MATURE BUCKS DON'T MAKE VERY MANY MISTAKES THAT'S WHY THEY'RE MATURE BUCKS. THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE WHY YOU SEEM TO THINK THAT THE BUCKS IN YOUR AREA DON'T LIVE PAST 2 YEARS, IT'S BECAUSE THE MATURE BUCKS ARE STILL LIVING AND THEY KNOW HOW TO GET AROUND DRIVES AND SUCH. I GUARANTEE THERE IS PLENTY OF MATURE BUCKS IN YOUR AREA, MAYBE NOT A GOOD BUCK TO DOE RATIO. BUT I WILL GUARANTEE YOU THAT THERE IS MATURE BUCKS IN YOUR AREA THEY ARE JUST NOT GETTING HARVESTED.
