your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
what do you use on whitetail and large game for broad heads?
|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
I think whitetail are considered large game. Anyway I currently use innerloc on whitetail and elk. But there are many other brands out there that will also do the job.
|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
I use 100 grain slick tricks. Great heads.
|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
Last year I started using the G5 Montec's and am really happy with them. Call me superstituous (sp?) but I had my best year ever.
As everyone says, they are a little dull out of the box but each one of them fly great and I still got a great blood trail on all the deer. I'm sticking with them. (pardon the pun) ;) |
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
100 grain rocket sidewinders do the trick. Good blood and kills on less than perfect hits. Pentrate awesome as well.
|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
I have taken deer with Rocket Wolverine 3p's, Wasp Jackhammers, Thunderhead 85's, 100's ,Muzzy 75's, 90's. and a sharp stick.
I would feel comfortable and hunt with all of them again........except the stick;) |
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
I have killed them with Rocket Steel heads, Wolverine 3Ps, Spitfires, Thunderheads and Montecs. I prefer the thunderheads but I would feel comfortable with any of them.
|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
I use Rocket Steel heads 100 grains. I used to use Thunderheads but I always had to change my sights from field tips to broadheads to i switched to Rockets because they shoot the same as my field points.
|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
I have had great success with the 100 grain Thunderheads...
|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
Thunderheads or Vortec....I've killed deer with all of them.
Bob, deer are considered medium sized game animals. This LINK isn't about bowhunting, but it classifies game animals....it's a good read either way. |

|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
Thanks Jason, I guess I look at my license that says, big-game and small game. Didn't see anything there for medium game. ;)

I've shot satelite tnt mags for the past few years and loved them. unfortunately I can no longer find replacement blades and I bouggered my last set of good baldes on double lung pass thru last fall. :(
I've read all the hype. This year I'll be launching muzzy 125g 3 blade. |
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
Montec and Muzzy.
I would like to try some magnus stingers;) |
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
I've used wasp jackhammers and NAP razorbacks. I've taken an elk with each of them. The razorbacks have good penetration and fly well. There are many out there that will do the job, but it is what you are comfortable with and have confidence in that will work for you.
|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
I had been shooting 100 grain Spitfires but last year I switched to Rocky Mountain Gator XPs. I like them a lot for deer.

|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
If you do a search, the 2003 broadhead success poll revealed Muzzys were used the most, followed by Thunderheads. Spitfires led mechanicals and along with other NAP mechanicals...led that type of head. Over 27 different brands were represented.

RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
Thunderhead 100's.
|
RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
Thunder Head 100's, I have taken over a dozen moose with them and I have had zero failures. I can't say that about a few other that I tried. One specific model left most of the blabes in the hide. I was lucky to get that moose.
Moose. |

RE: your favorite whitetail broad heads and broad heads for big game?
Thunderhead 125's are THE broadhead for me.
BUT ..... if for some reason they don't match my shafts as well as antoher head, I got no problems changing. Great arrow flights is the #1 most important thing IMO, bot type of head. |
