Default Hunting report

I have to post this because some of you were saying Len never drove for me. So this AM I took my bow and walked back into a spot. Len went a different direction and decided to sit on the ground with his smoke pole. He got busted by a small herd around 7:30 so said he would walk around and see what he could drive my way from the front of the woods.

I had already had two come within 75 yards and walk back and forth on this ridge but never came close enough. Then 6 of the ones he spooked came trotting up the hill and crossed the ridge, again 75 yards away. Then a single came by. I was all set and was going to shoot but since it was a single I decided to look real close. He got to within 30 yards and I could see his bumps so I let him walk by. Then Len told me he was on the move. He gave me a progress report as he moved. When he was still about 500-600 yards away I saw deer coming straight on. Well they veered off just enough to put them at about my max range. If they were relaxed and calm I probably would have taken a shot... but they were all wired. There were 18 walking single file. It just wasn't right so I didn't shoot. I didn't want to be trailing some wounded deer today. They passed by and went up between two houses into a neighborhood behind our woods. I called him and told him. Looked up and here came 3 more... same deal 40-45 yards. Then another single came by on the other side about 75 yards away. Then a Len showed up coming up the hill. In all I saw 31... no shots fired... no arrows fired... no blood on the ground. It's tough with them so spooky this time of year and all herded up. Found a couple trees to move more into the thicket with the major trails for the next time. Took some camo pictures and came home. Pictures later.

You have absolutely no idea how jealous I am of the fact that you and Len still are able to hunt this far past the regular season limits. It is simply not fair.[>:]

I will give you credit though. I know alot of lesser men who probably would have taken a few shotst that you passed on. Ofcourse, they probably would not have as much time to hunt though either....

He got busted by a small herd....
That's a little understated. I heard a lot of noise behind me. I slowly turned my head and caught about 4 deer out of the corner of my eye. I patiently waited and slowly (VERY slowly) reached for my gun.

What I had no knowledge of was that there were about 8 more deer behind those 4. With all those eyes, ears and noses, it was easy for them to bust me on the ground.[:
