Default Calling Bucks

Has anyone tried or had any luck with a snort wheeze call? I've seen buck do a snort wheeze on video but never seen them do it in the wild. So I'm a little curious how it would work in a hunting situation. Has anyone used it with any success?

I generally try to stay away from all calling. I try to stay as unknown as possible in the woods. There are just too many hunters in my area running wild with their calls lately. The only thing that I use in calling is a grunt, and that is only to stop a walking buck.

I've heard bucks snort-wheeze three times in hundreds of trips to a tree stand. IMO the chances of a gimmick like that making any difference in your successful harvest of a buck are astronomical! It's just another way for someone to dupe folks and get into their pocket for more money. IMO don't waste your time or your money! I also agree with BobCo although I will do some calling at specific times and I have had some calls that I would give credit to helping me harvest some bucks but a snort-wheeze is a scam IMO. Good luck.

Well Wolfen, let me guess, you have never used the M.A.D. Snort Grunt Wheeze. Don't call it a gimick, unless you have tried it. I personally own one and I believe it is the best call on the market. I have called in a buck from over two hundred yards with it. He came off a hill, snorting, grunting, stomping his feet, shaking his head in the brush.... He was REALLY PI$$ED OFF. It is a call that isn't used much, therefore it is much more effective than the normal grunt calls. 22" barrel, get one, YOU WON'T BE SORRY'

P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^)

Bucky...did you shoot that buck? 200 yards? I've been as close as 15 yards to a buck when they've snort-wheezed and I frickin' guarantee you that no deer 200 yards away would have heard it!!! You are not mistaking a snort-wheeze with a deer blowing are you? Perhaps when you blew the gimmicky "MAD" call it scared all the other deer in the woods away and for some reason this buck that was two football fields away came running when he heard all of the ruckus.

I have never used snort wheeze call, but will tell you when I find one I will buy it. I had a buck that pulled the snort wheeze on me about 7 or 8 times in a row this year. I had a true talker with me and I tried it all to get him to come through the thicket to give me a shot. The only thing that got him closer was as crazy as this sounds thrashing 2 saplings together and stomping the ground. He never did come out and it got to dark to shoot so I slid out of there. I turned an 8 point heading in the opposite direction with a doe bleat this year also, but he circled me on the downwind side and winded me.

Wolfen, the deer came into 18 yards before I shot it. He never was scared, he was ticked off. The call isn't a gimick. You have addmitted that you have heard it, so, you should know that it isn't a gimick. Deer are like turkeys, they can get call shy, this call is something that is new to them. They use it, but not very often, and when they hear it, they know it is a deer.

The grunt snort wheeze is an agressive vocalization usually expressed by dominant bucks when they feel their territory has been threatened by another buck. As with most deer vocalizations this call will work better in some areas than in others. The time of year also has alot to do with it. During early archery the bucks are not usually agressive enough. As the chasing phase of the rut nears this call could be very effective. Remember the grunt, snort, wheeze is a bucks way of saying I'm p o'd and I'm gonna kick butt. As far as the M.A.D. call I've never used it but I wouldn"t hesitate to try it. I don't feel its a gimick the Drury bros. are pretty serious about their hunting.
