Found a dead bear on our property
#1
I was out today doing a little shed hunting on our property and came across a dead bear. I spied him about 100 yards away and wasn't sure if it was alive of what. I stood there and used binoculars to look him over. It wasn't moving, but I still wasn't sure. I yelled a couple times at it and it still didn't move. I got within 20 yards or so and threw a couple limbs at him and he wasn't moving. I walked up to him and poked him a couple times just for good measure. There isn't any evidence of a gun shot, or any other kind of wound. I can't figure out what could have caused this. The bear looks to go somewhere in the 250-300lb range and his teeth were in good shape so I know he wasn't an old bear.
Any thoughts?

Yep Muzzyman! Call the dnr for sure you don't want any diseases on your property, good chance he might have died of something simple as the guy's say hit by a car.but I'd protect yourself and make sure that this bear wasn't carrying something else.If you have him checked then you'll know for sure .

We called the game commission. They are going to come out on Monday to take a look. No, its about 2 miles from the nearest road where I found him.

My guess is it was killed by a diease. That is good that DNR/Game Commission (not even sure if those are the same) and take a look to find out. Good luck on the season and hopefully no other animals are infected if in fact it is an diease.
