I'm 13 and I'm looking for a new bow. I currently have a Browning Micro Midas. It is turned all the way up to 45 lbs and it is too light. I'm looking for a bow that is in the 50-60 lb catagory. It needs to cost about $400 bare. I was looking at a Hoyt. Any suggestions?

I know I'll get shuned for saying this but the PSE Firestorm Lite may be a good fit. Price is about what you want to spend ($380-$410 shop around) naked. Axel to axel is 30 inches. Adjustable from 50lbs to 70lbs, draw length 26in to 30 in and adjustable let off of 65% or 80%. I shot one the other day and really liked it. Good bow for the money. oh yeah, it weighs 3.2lbs.

Deer-Slayer, i reconize something in your problem there. My youngerst son is 13 to and something like 6 feet allready. I had him set-up with a pse nova 3 years ago and for this season it was wayyyyyyy to short for him to. The poundage was not even the biggerst problem. I took the cams from my old pse and put them in his nova. So now he can draw it a bit futher, and i decided to wait a little longer with buying a new bow for him.
For you, i would like to warn you to be carefull on what you going to do.
It sounds like you need another bow anyway but i dont think you are ready growing.
So maybe its better to wait a little with buying a new one and choose for a second hand first.
I believe there was allready help comming your way in this.
Good luck on your new bow!

Deer-Slayer22:
Regardless of all the manufacturer hype and the all personal bias (e.g., "My bow is better than your bow!"), most bows made today are all good bows. Just find one that fits you, and is realistic for bowhunting purpose.
Avoid over-bowing yourself by buying one that is too sensitive for your skill level. Forget the speed fad. For the average bowhunting conditions, high speed is grossly overrated. A bow that can produce a high IBO speed, especially one with a sort axle-to-axle length and low brace height, may be a bow that would be difficult for you to tune and to shoot consistently accurate, if accurate at all.

Well here are the specs, im from boise idaho by the way,
Brace height: 7" (Option B)
Draw Lengths: 25-30"
IBO: 325-333 fps
Draw Weights: 60-70 peaks
Let-off: 80% effective, 65% available
Axle-Axle: 35.9"
Mass weight: 3.7 lbs
Cam: Post-Feed single cam
Idler: wide-track wheel
Camo: Advantage Timber
Grip: walnut, 1" throat
Riser: machined aluminum
Cable Guard: Carbon, riser mount
Limb Pockets: sealed, sand filled
String: Winners Choice
I am truly surprised how easy the bow is to shoot with such a short brace height. I found a very shootable valley and a rock solid wall. One of my favorite things about the bow is the silky smooth draw supplemented with the 80 percent let-off.
