We got our land back!
 

Two years ago a bowhunter put a proposal into the Alaska Board of Game to close off over 100 square miles of bowhunting only grounds where I hunt. It had passed mainly because nobody stood up to the proposal, and the board of game thought that this was what the bowhunters wanted. Unfortunately it was not, and I have spent the last two years figuring out the system of the board of game, and how regulations are made, changed and removed.

Finally got the news on Sunday that after 2 years of working on this, we have reversed the restriction and got our land back! This will take effect on July 1st this year, when our caribou season opens back up.

This area is the Dalton Highway Corridor Management area, which is a 10 mile wide bowhunting only stretch from the Yukon River north to Prudhoe Bay, which is around a 400 mile stretch, making this a 4000 square mile bowhunting only area. The prime 100 square miles of that ground for caribou hunting was the newly restricted area, which was a 1/2 mile stretch from Prudhoe Bay down to Atigun Pass, the border of unit 26B.

It's nice to finally fight for your rights back, and win.

Gonna start video taping caribou hunts during the last week of March, or the last two weeks of April. Then we are going to video our black and brown bear hunt in early May. I wish I would of gotten video of the one big game animal that I've taken this year, but he was a DOA.

ABM sure am happy to hear you's stood up for your right's and were able to get your land back .These thing's usually don't get reversed once they've been changed .We've been fighting here in Ontario to restore the spring bear hunt ,but it doesn't matter how much evidence we have they still have refused to restore it .The people who cottage there are the one's against it and the bear's are showing up all over the place and in town being nuisances . They are at record number's of collecting these bear's and removing them but they still won't change their mind's .I think maybe some of these people who are against the bear hunt should live in the north permenantly just to find out what the local's are dealing with on a daily basis .

Yep, that's a 28 pound bundle of fur and rage laying there. He's heading south to get stuffed. I caught him in a 220 conibear in the same area that we just got back for hunting. There's a lot of critters in that area.

It took a governor change to sweep out the bunny huggers we had in the Board of Game, and once we ousted our liberal governor and got a conservative governor in there, our board of game is able to make management decisions on biology, not tear jerking, political correct yahoos that think bears and wolves should be put on a higher pedistle than their own children.

Rick, I'm back up in Alaska right now, so I missed the race. Sure wish I was home though, I would of loved to have gone. Maybe next year. Just because you don't get delt a good hand of cards to come hunting doesn't mean you can't bluff the wife a little. :D
