I like it, but of course the only other school I have attended was MCC (muskegon Community) so I don't have much to campare it to.

I graduated from Ferris in 92. As the saying goes, easy school to get in, hard to stay in. I've had friends that completed the optometry program and loved it and are doing very well for themselves. It's supposed to be one of the best in the country for that program.

I grew up in Oxford, (Oakland County, 1/2 hour north of The Palace), and am currently making my home in Howell, Livingston County. I have hunting property in Harrison.

GVDocHoliday - been to Tippy many times. What a great part of the state. How's the turkey population up there?

Turkey population is doing very well. The second season this year however didn't cooperate with my college schedule, so I went right with the 234 hunt. It's the same time as the second season last year. This will be my third year goin' after gobblers...so far I'm two for two(knock on wood) but I've been fortunate enough to draw the second season both times. Hopefully they won't be too educated by the time I go after them.

RE: Any one from Michigan

Well, ya gotta admit......Michigan is where its at!!!! Can anyone honestly tell me there is anything more wiley, harder to hunt, more coy, tougher to trick, than the illustrious Michigan Whitetail? I am telling you, if you can be successful here, you can be succesful anywhere. :D:D:D

GVDocHoliday 03-04-2004 08:14 PM

RE: Any one from Michigan

I hear you patches...the state of MI has the highest deer population, yet the lowest success rate. As compared to Iowa, which has one of the lowest deer populations and the highest success rate.

Also, what's the deal here...it seems everyone is either from Mid/Southern MI or da UP eh. It's like I'm the only one between M55 and the bridge. Nobody from the Cadillac, Traverse City, or Gaylord areas have sounded off yet. Funny thing is that I also notice that this is the trend for 3d shoots during the summer.

Kip 03-04-2004 08:22 PM

RE: Any one from Michigan

Doc, I think our success rates are pretty good, its the quality of bucks thats lacking in alot of areas.

patches42 03-05-2004 08:29 AM

RE: Any one from Michigan

I agree with Kip. I have seen many bucks/does taken but the hawgs don't come very often. I attribute this to the fact that in Michigan, not many people own large tracts of land as they do out west. It is hard to pursue QDM when you are hunting on 20 acres or someone elses land. You may pass up a buck, but the neighbor is gonna shoot it.

Trushot_archer 03-05-2004 03:26 PM

RE: Any one from Michigan

Michigan sucess rates are pretty high, it's like patches said though mostly small bucks. We kill (and are allowed to) anything that moves or has a twig on it's head and wonder why we don't have the monsters that Iowa,Illinois, Ohio etc. have.

It's not genetics or habitat....only management (or lack therof)

thenuge15 03-06-2004 01:31 PM

RE: Any one from Michigan

We have quite a few big bucks in kent county. This year I got a 6 point that scored almost 90" and my buddys friends got a nice 100 class 8 point and we also saw a monster running around on the property we hunt.
