RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This also proves a point - fixed blades are better and kill more deer than mechanicals!
Although I use fixed blades, I will not say this. I honestly feel that the ratio of fixed blade users and mechanical users may be about the same as was reported in kills. Who knows? That is probably the reason more fixed head kills are reported....more fixed blade users? Enough people are having success with mechanicals that I may givem a try this season.

One question, I have never heard of Ribtec or Edge
Antler Eater, not sure about Edge..could not find any info. on it. It was just reported as one kill. Ribtec is made in Australia, and if you saw it......well[&:]

5 Shot, It seems to me that the number of members using mechanicals and fixed blades remained about the same ratio. Rocket lost some support the last 2 polls, I believe its because of NAP's popularity along with more people trying the Shockwave and Scorpion, along with Spitfires gaining more followers.

Its interesting to note that although Muzzy was ahead in 100 grain, Thunderhead led the 125 grain category. Any clue?

Montec seems to be picking up steam, I am going to carry a couple, along with my Muzzys, and gonna try a mechanical this season.

Thanks for your work. I'm sure everyone appreciates the time you've taken to compile the results. :)

No surprise here. The most used heads in the poll are the ones that are sold at every Walmart in the country. The same type of results turn up every year in the Bowhunting World reader's choice awards. The items voted most popular are the ones that are readily available at national chain stores. Now before anyone gets PO'ed, I'm not implying that any of these items are necessarly inferior. Some, like the Muzzy broadheads, are excellent. It's just that they are the most available products to the masses, and are usually discounted to be cheaper.

Good point Olink. I had not considered that when doing a mental inventory of the results. I took them at face value more than looking for possible reasons behind them.

Antler Eater, here is a Ribtec head. Obviously its a glue on. It comes in several different grain weights.

Olink, I would say you made a good point. As with everything else it seems, Walmart has gotten into almost everything. I bet if Wally World did not carry any broadheads at all or carried more brands and models, the results might be a little different.

Not to make anybody mad but.............wish Wally World didn't carry any broadheads at all!

When someone is thinking about changing their set-up this is just another tool that can help in selecting broadheads.
It may show what many bowhunting members here are using, but I think 5Shot's broadhead tests are more interesting, and his tests certainly contain indepth information.

Thanks for the pic Cougar, much appreciated.

Statistics are always interesting. Most times people that visit these forums are a bit more serious about their hunting than the average "Joe Lunchbucket". That being said, I am somewhat surprised that over 33% of the participants of this survey harvested animals with mechanicals. Seems like I read somewhere that mechanicals have captured 35-40 % of the market share. I thought that was high but it looks like it isn't far off the mark.

Although I tend to be more of a fixed blade guy, starting in 1998 I have successfully used at least 10 different models of mechanical heads, and I have to honestly say I have never had one fail so they are obviously superior to the ones from days gone by.

Thanks, Coug! That is interesting to see what we all used, and where a particular brand fits in with the rest of the results. Thanks!
