RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results...almost done.
Thanks Cougar , We know you put considerable effort into this .
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results...almost done.
Thanks a bunch! that really shows what we are using. I do have a questions I think this is the third or 4th year you have conducted this pole. Have you noticed any trends over the last years? it would be intresting to compare results from the last several years.
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results...almost done.
Wow, those are some impressive statistics. I definitely appreciate the time and effort you put forth with this study. Not exactly what I expected in the mech. category but worthwhile for sure.
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results...almost done.
Thanks for your hard work!!!
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results...almost done.
Yeah - thanks a bunch. Very interesting.
This also proves a point - fixed blades are better and kill more deer than mechanicals!:D:D:D I was really surprised Thunderheads and Razorbacks were not used in the fixed category. (Maybe that's why I wasn't a part of this poll[:'(]) |
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results...almost done.
Well done Cougar.
I am always amazed how much effort some put into their posts on this board. This is a excellent example. One question, I have never heard of Ribtec or Edge. Perhaps someone could fill me in with some information and/or a picture. |
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results...almost done.
Great job, Cougar. Thanks. You da man. :)

RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[8D] Nice, well done effort Cougar Mag. Statistical efforts like yours is a great way to track current trends in broadhead preferencing. It gives us bow hunters a fine guide as to what is being used. When someone is thinking about changing their set-up this is just another tool that can help in selecting broadheads. Kudos for your efforts and a big thank you from all of us is in order.

RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This also proves a point - fixed blades are better and kill more deer than mechanicals! One question, I have never heard of Ribtec or Edge 5 Shot, It seems to me that the number of members using mechanicals and fixed blades remained about the same ratio. Rocket lost some support the last 2 polls, I believe its because of NAP's popularity along with more people trying the Shockwave and Scorpion, along with Spitfires gaining more followers. Its interesting to note that although Muzzy was ahead in 100 grain, Thunderhead led the 125 grain category. Any clue? Montec seems to be picking up steam, I am going to carry a couple, along with my Muzzys, and gonna try a mechanical this season. |
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your work. I'm sure everyone appreciates the time you've taken to compile the results. :)

RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No surprise here. The most used heads in the poll are the ones that are sold at every Walmart in the country. The same type of results turn up every year in the Bowhunting World reader's choice awards. The items voted most popular are the ones that are readily available at national chain stores. Now before anyone gets PO'ed, I'm not implying that any of these items are necessarly inferior. Some, like the Muzzy broadheads, are excellent. It's just that they are the most available products to the masses, and are usually discounted to be cheaper.

RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Antler Eater, here is a Ribtec head. Obviously its a glue on. It comes in several different grain weights.
![]() Olink, I would say you made a good point. As with everything else it seems, Walmart has gotten into almost everything. I bet if Wally World did not carry any broadheads at all or carried more brands and models, the results might be a little different. Not to make anybody mad but.............wish Wally World didn't carry any broadheads at all! |

RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the pic Cougar, much appreciated.
Statistics are always interesting. Most times people that visit these forums are a bit more serious about their hunting than the average "Joe Lunchbucket". That being said, I am somewhat surprised that over 33% of the participants of this survey harvested animals with mechanicals. Seems like I read somewhere that mechanicals have captured 35-40 % of the market share. I thought that was high but it looks like it isn't far off the mark. Although I tend to be more of a fixed blade guy, starting in 1998 I have successfully used at least 10 different models of mechanical heads, and I have to honestly say I have never had one fail so they are obviously superior to the ones from days gone by. |
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great job!!! and i do mean job.thats a lot of work, much time and effort.thank you.
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Coug! That is interesting to see what we all used, and where a particular brand fits in with the rest of the results. Thanks!
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Cougar Mag for all the time and work you put into this!! I am ready to purchase new broadheads for the 2004 season and this will help.
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmmmmm. I don't see any results with the Rocky Mountain Gator XP's. I killed 3 this year with them and I was pretty sure I posted in the poll.
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice job and well dispensed info.
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not to make anybody mad but.............wish Wally World didn't carry any broadheads at all! J/k [8D], but I tell you what, it sure was nice to pick up some Phantom's for only $10 this year! Thankyou very much for posting these results. |
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This last season was my first bowhunting season, I used a $4.97 (cant remember the name of the brand) set of 3 broadheads, made a good shot, and clean kill. Sp I think the best thing to do is practice, practice, practice.

RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good work Cougar. I've read alot of good things about magnus heads on this board as well as others and I'm surprised there weren't more of them used. But it comes as no surprise to me that Muzzy's were numero uno! They're a great head but Olink does bring up a very interesting point. If walmart carried all of these lines, then which would be the most popular?
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mike from Texas, yes I have some kills from Rocky Mountain Gator XPs, I just never listed how many.....4 kills listed with them.
To all......I want to add that there were a few posts that listed kills from past years, I made sure and did not count those. Also, a few posts mentioned broadheads carried....those were not counted and to be honest, Muzzy and Thunderhead took some hits, more than any other heads that I didn't include in the totals, when it was 100% clear that a head was carried but had not scored. |
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Job Cougar. It is interesting
That was alot of adding:D Thanks for all the hard work |
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincere regards Cougar Mag and thanks for sharing the results with us!!
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone feel that Wally's might carry T-heads and Muzzys because they are so popular and have been for so long. And not that Muzzy's and T-heads are popular because Wally' carries them?
The heads popularity made the store choose them, rather than the heads being popular only becuase the store sells them. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? :D |
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which came first, the chicken or the egg I was thinking this morning about this Wimp. In fact, some broadheads that are available now at Walmart were not available a few years ago. And some broadheads that were available at Walmart have seemed to disappear from their selection. |
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Job. I will (hopefully) add a Buffalo to the Rocky Mountain catagory for 2004 in March. Good Job & I know it takes lots of time... A Rocky Kill last Nov...

RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a lot for the good info, and all your work. I didn't participate in the poll as I haven't got a kill yet. (haven't even shot at one yet!)
|
RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job! I thought Rocket would have been the leader in mechanicals. Most of my freinds shoot Rocket and don't even look at other mechanicals. I think I'm gonna try some NAP heads this summer and see how they compare. Thanks for your time and effort Cougar.

RE: Broadhead Success Poll Results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
