For me I get personal satisfaction from an animal I take, so I haven't entered any past animals taken and probably never will. Besides, I probably won't buy a copy of the book just to see my name entered.

By the way......the asterisk is not big enough.:D

Its about time. You still have to get close to make the shot. And what's with the astericks if an animal is taken with a bow >65% let off. You don't see B&C putting one on an animal shot with a "Magnum" caliber. Just a thought.

Will you feel the same when (and if) they come out with a 100% let off bow?

When does a bow stop being a bow?

The question is of the same flavor as the question of crossbows. Not the same question, but in the same vein.

RE: How do you feel about P & Y changing the let-off rule?

In 1996 i enterd my first whitetail into the P&Y recards with a buck that i took that year. after the 60 day drying period i got in touch with an offical P&Y scorer. he told me to drop the rack off by his house one afternoon and he would score it for me. the next day he called me and cogratulated me and told me to come by and pick up the rack and what to do to get my name recorded. when i got to him home he told me i had to sign an affidavit set forth by the P&Y club under the fair chase rule and to take three photos of the antlers left, right and front and told me what the recording fee was.and where to send it. but at no time did he ask to see my bow although i did bring it with me to his home just in case! My bow was set at 60% letoff. sence then i have enter into the book two more times and with diffrent measurer`s and again they never ask to see my bow. the affidivit you sign is saying you follow the rules and are telling the truth about how and where and by what meathed you took it.In my opinion it is an honner to be in the pope&young big game records.but if wish not to enter. I inderstand. In my opinion the rule of the 60% let should have never been made. I have always felt this way about that rule! although i followed all the rules set by the P&Y club . The letoff of a bow really does not have much to do with fair chase at all! In my opinion! any one that takes a trophy that meets the reqiurments and follows the laws in the state in which he hunts by the department of fish and game and the department of natual resourcses and by all other rules set by the Boone&crockett and the pope&young clubs. Should have had there names entered all a long. And for the true outstanding trophy they have taken WITHOUT ASTERSTISKS! Its an honner to have my name in the same book as fred bear and chuck adams.and many other well known bowhunters, not that any one will ever really no who i or really care`s. But if wish not to enter your trophy i for any other reasons i under stand! after all you killed it it`s your choice? good hunting! RTA47.

I think that there were guys who had higher letoff bows, who developed attitudes against P&Y because of the rule. I felt that this took away from the focus on fair chase and sportsmanship that P&Y promotes. This rule change takes away the animosity and on balance is better for the sport.

O.k. then when does bow equipment stop being bow equipment! The industry will constantly keep modifying or improving archery, as far as the let off rule, I feel is'nt that big a deal. But I do feel there is more advantage with the new bow epuipment on the market nowadays, such as arrows, sights, and rests.
