Straightest Bowhunting Arrow?
Just curious,
What's the straightest bowhunting arrow you can find? Now I'm talking Bowhunting here, not 3D. I shoot some 3D but with my bowhunting set up, so those tiny little arrows with the 1 1/2" vanes don't count. What do you all use? I currently use Terminators and know there are straighter arrows out there. Also does a thousandth of an inch really matter? Your opinions are welcome. |
RE: Straightest Bowhunting Arrow?
I think Easton ACCs are right up there in terms of straightness levels.....001 if I remember correctly. However, there is advertised straightness levels and actual straightness levels. The ACCs would be hard to beat in terms of the latter...and many folks use them for hunting.

I don't really believe it matters if it's .006 or .003 or .001 for hunting. I have used all and I can't tell the difference between one or the other based on impact points. so I don't worry about it. I work on form and anchor and smooth release to gain accuracy..
Prehaps some of the top contenders on 3D and Spots can tell based upon where they impact. but most of us can't shoot that well to tell anyway. |

You're shooting Terminators. If you like them, you'll LOVE Terminator Selects.
I agree about the ACC's but downscale the price and you're at XX78's, which are plenty good. Even XX75's are darn good as well. From what I hear, to get a straight all carbon shaft, you're looking at paying ACC prices anyway. I disagree with Bees about straightness though. Maybe if you don't shoot that well, you won't tell much difference, but the difference is there nonetheless. A fair shooter will shoot better with an ACC than he will with one of those overglorified tomato stakes a lot of companies are selling for arrows. Maybe the extra cost will even cause him enough concern to really bear down and stop being so flippin' careless about his shooting technique. Enough of that and he'll start turning into a pretty decent shot before long. ;) |

I don't know aurthur, I"v gotten deer using arrows with all of those straightness specs.. Just didn't seem to make any differance. I was able to get all of them into the vital zone..
Now when I shoot 3D I use Carbon Express cxl 250 and I don't even know what the spec is on it.. |

Remember, you get what you pay for! With that in mind and your not just concerned about money, I vote for GoldTip 3D Pro. They are very straight. If you spin test each arrow and find that one is not straight, send it back and they will replace it. They do have good customer service. If found a dozen 3D pro's on the internet for $69, unfletched. I can't remember the website. i will post it when I run across it.

RE: Straightest Bowhunting Arrow?
Not to rain on the ACC parade, but I found the majority of mine were not straight enough for hunting after shooting them for a year. I didn't shoot them to death either. I will be going to Forge bow's extreme arrow(.00145) is their stated straightness. I know several pro staff shooters that swear by them.

Another vote for GoldTip 3-D Pros.... straightness of .001" and a weight tolerance of +/- 1 grain. Plus, they aren't nearly as expensive as the other arrows with the same specs. I got a dozen that were cut and fletched with nocks and inserts installed for $79.95 I got mine here......

BM,
I thought you were shooting Carbon Express CXLs?? |
RE: Straightest Bowhunting Arrow?
...straightness of .001" and a weight tolerance of +/- 1 grain. How long do they hold onto their straightness and spine? I have yet to see any 100% carbon shafts that can retain their original straightness and spine for longer than a couple months of hard shooting. Maybe they last for guys that only shoot 20-30 arrows a week, but for someone like me that shoots maybe a thousand arrows a week... Before someone flings it out there: "But the Pros shoot them." Yeah, but they don't tell you how many dozens of arrows they go through in a season, do they. commandr45... Two words. Arrow Straightener. Works wonders for keeping aluminum and aluminum core arrows in top shape. I've got aluminum arrows that are 5 years old and still check straight within +/- .001" because of my straightener. |
