i was reading the new york fish and game book and the guy who write the article said they are very few young hunters!!!!!!! me i know real good 20-25 kids my age and know one bow hunts!!!!!! what is everybody age and what age did you start hunting... me iam 18 hunting since i was 13 and i wouldh[:-] bow hunt any day over gun!!!!!!!

i'm 20 years old and have been rifle hunting since i was 12......I got a bow last year so i'm just gettin going on bowhunting...Bowhunting is great but i still like to use my rifle on occasion.

I'm 38, been hunting with bow since I was knee high. Started hunting deer and elk when I was 14. Got the witch out of my bow when I was 17(first deer). :D

Young hunters are the future of our sport. Start them early but don't push them.

[8D] I'm 53 and have been hunting since 12. My only son got involved when he was 15. We love each others company and enjoy our hunts tremendously. I also urge hunters to bring their kids to the sport. The only caveat I would add is that you think very carefully about grooming young hunters. Show them what is available and see if their interest has been raised. If they don't show much interest I would strongly urge that you back off. If they want to try hunting in the future they will step forward and let you know. In the meantime please be the model hunter that all of us would be proud to partner with on a hunting venture. When kids see behavior that they respect they will follow your gentle lead. JMO

I am 32 now. Started shooting at 10 and hunting whitetails at 14. My daughter is now 14 and has been shooting a year now and going strong, hopefully she will be hunting soon.

16, been hunting squirrel and rabbit since I was 4 and deer with a crossbow since I was 6-7. Killed my first deer when I was 12. I forgot to say I hunt with a compound mostly now.

Im 29 and been hunting deer and turkey w/gun since I was 8 years old, and bow hunting since I was big enough to draw a bow that would kill a deer, Ithink I was around 12 when I started bow hunting. I try to get anyone into hunting that is interested, this year was great, I spent more time taking budding hunters out for their deer, and got to see three different people get their first deer, and my 91 year old grandpa got his first in about 20 years out of a ground blind I took him too. It was worth every minute that I missed hunting for myself just seeing people succeed at my favorite passtime.

30 yreas old, been hinting since 14 and been going hunting since before that. Bow hunting for 5 years.

The simple fact is (and what the article was tryting to say), there are less and less young people getting into hunting. There has just been a culture shift. Kids nowadays just don't have the interest and/or their fathers don't hunt anymore. Couple cases in point: 1) when I was in highschool there was a large percentage of kids that hunted (1st day of deer season was like an unwritten day off); now there is a very small percentage that hunts and many of the kids I grew up with have drifted away from the sport 2) my brothers are in highschool - one enjoys the outdoors & shooting and the other wants nothing to do with it; the one that enjoys the outdoors would love to go with us hunting, etc. but he never has any time (if he's not playing football, basketball, baseball, hockey, etc, he has other extraciricular activities that keeps him aweful busy - and not just during school - it contiinues throughout the summer), he turned 16 this season so he could go shotgun hunting, but never was able to - we try but it never seems to work out, hopefully I can get him out for turkey season 3) I know of a few people, personnally that have expressed an interest in starting up with hunting, but they don't know where to go or who to ask (they don't live near me so I couldn't help that much - i tried to get them down to turkey hunt), it's hard for a novice to get started without knowing some one, it can be "aukward" and a bit intimidating for people just starting

anyway, got to keep trying

55 started hunting at 15, but had 5 years of pest controll with a .22 in the back yard garden. Been bow hunting for 20 years.

I'm 42 and been hunting since i was 14. Been bowhunting since the age of 20. I have a son who started hunting with me at the age of 4 and killed his first deer at age 11. He is now shooting a bow but hasn't killed a deer with it. My daughter started hunting with me this year at the age of 3 1/2. I hope to be able to say the same thing about my grandkids someday.

I turned 62 on a Bowhunt in Texas this past Nov.. I had 9 Bowhunts for wild hogs last year in 3 states making a video. I started shooting & Bowhunting in 1956 & took my 1st deer at 16 in 1958. I hope to have many more Bowhunting experiences but have been blessed with MANY biggame hunting trips and have ONLY BOWHUNTED my entire life. I have a Buffalo Bowhunt booked for this coming March plus a few more hunts near the fall. I have a son that will soon turn 30 & he too, has been a bowhunter for several years. We "DO" enjoy the time together in the woods. I have a daughter that just took up Bowhunting this year at the age of 31 & I plan on taking them both on a wild hog hunt in the near future-I am just going to enjoy them Bowhunting & film them. you young fellas enjoy a great sport-always respect the animal you are after & enjoy your time in the woods..
