Practice as much as I can, scout, fish, spend my life savings when Bass Pro Shop opens in my hometown (June 9), Golf, work on the house, think of how I'd love to hunt the zillion turkeys on my land that I don't have time to, coach my kids baseball team, and befor you know it right back at it!!!;) Oh yeah I probably have to mix in a little work.

RE: off season plans

First off I need to get a job.
Then I take that money and buy things like a site, arrow rest, limb savers, cat whiskers, stableizer and such for the bow I got as a Christmas gift just before Christmas:D
Then get arrows and practice all summer so I can use it this upcoming deer season:D
Plus, rabbit stays in a bit longer than deer and then I got turkey season and fishing and scouting and vacation and such so it wont be too bad;)

RE: off season plans

Santa brought the boy a new compound for Christmas. The pro shop Santa acquired it from gave him a bunch of range time. Thats where I'll start. At the indoor range teaching my boy to shoot. (Actually my step son, but been with him since he was 3:) ) Course I'll be shooting too. Hopefully Mathews won't come out with much new cause I'm already starting to twitch! I hope to lose that new bow itch.[>:] As weather permits we will shoot outside at our place. Bag target, then 3-D, then broadhead, then from ladder stand.

Come about the middle of February, I'm loading the family up in the family truckster and heading for Cabelas in Kansas City. Need to get some fishing stuff and get ready for Walleye season. Auhhh, Whitetails and Walleyes! It's Great to be an American!!![:-]:D[:-]:D[:-]

That's about it. Shoot and fish through the summer. Before you know it, fall is here again, followed closely by Santa then the IRS.[>:]

Scout right after the season. Most people I know don't do this and it tells you a lot about deer activity. Shoot tons of arrows. Passing up the end of this bow season because I don't feel comfortable shooting at a deer now. Look for a job. Need more hunting equipment.;)

RE: off season plans

:eek: I am always scouting. To me my day is not complete without doing a little prowling. My area that I normally hunt is just behind my home so I have no excuse. It's a great form of exercise and I learn something each day. I practice still hunting and many a day I only cover about 150-200 yards. Real still hunting takes real patience, practice and constant observation. Moving so slowly allows you the time to see new signs, activity patterns and wind play techniques. I can't tell you the # of times I have successfully stealthed my way to their beds, feeding spots and water sources. To me it's a year round process that keeps my adrenaline flowing. Try it, you will like the whitetail playground so much more when you become an active player. The more time you spend doing such activities the greater is the chance that you level the playing field, so to speak. When the following season arrives I just know where to place my boy, Joe for his chances. After he sticks one I just think back to all those fun hours of solitary. Just look at his grin and I get that proud dad experience of truly sharing his thrill. Man that's what huntins all about my friends.

Well,Let's see,Hunting season ends the end of Jan,thats about the same the Ravens will be in the Super Bowl. After all thats over with, got to redo the kids bathroom, finish off the other half of the basement.I'll start 3-D shooting in late March.Hopefully by then,I will have made my mind up on whether to keep the LX,or get another Bowtech.I had an 03 SC Pat.,but I thought it was a little too harsh in the draw cycle,so I'll check out the 04's,maybe the dual cam..Bob

Well lets see, I plan on doing lots of scouting this winter, and I will be playing with my new trail cam alot. My wife and I are planning an ice fishing trip to Northern Mn, this will be my first time on the ice since I was about 20, so that would be about 17 years. We dont have an ice house so we will be renting from one of the resorts. Come summer I will be riding my new motorcycle that I got last year, Yamaha V-Star 1100. Hopefully I will be going to spectate at some of the dirt tracks around here, and doing lots of crying becouse I traded my racecar for the bike. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. The only thing I enjoyed more than bow hunting was racing, if you can believe that. Oh well, at least I still have the bowhunting, not to mention, more money to spend on hunting!!:DOther than that, I will just be shooting, shooting, and shooting. And the best part will be when my 11 year old son will come from North Dakota, to spend the summer with me!!!

farmcntry, I'll go with ya.

I've just about put on enough fat to get me through the winter. With a few more days off, I'm still working hard on that though.:D

Rabbit and coyote go for a few more months if I get real bored. I plan on doing some improvement on our hunting land with new trails and stands. There's always steelhead a couple months away. Then the walleye run, then bass fishing. Hopefully get a turkey tag for spring. Going to work on the recurve shooting a bit too. Oh yeah, I have to plant a yard and landscape too if I have time.

farmcntry, badshot

I really wish you would. They seriously annoy me during bowhunting. I've been busted more times because of the dang turkeys than the deer.

Turkey:

Spring = May 1 - May 31

Fall = October 1 - November 16

Come on up and thin em out. I may even throw in a practice keg hunt. A couple days on the lake wouldn't hurt either.

I'm there dude. How many and what sex can I kill in spring?

NY Bowhunter 01-02-2004 10:39 AM

RE: off season plans

My trusty ole book tells me ..

2 bearded in the spring (1 per day)...... estimate on this bag limit = 1 hour a day.

2 either sex in the fall

farmcntry 01-02-2004 10:43 AM

RE: off season plans

I'd like to come up during the spring. (Less bigfoots in Ny during spring.)

Also our winter season is in January and our spring is in April.

Nothing for May so that'd be cool.

What weapons can you use? We can only use shotgun or bow.

Dang it Charlie. You mooch. Ya moved in on the keg hunt at Taz's. Ya moved in on the whole bigfoot thing. Now ya trying to kick me out of a turkey's nest.

If he has as many as he says he does why don't we just get together and keg the heck out of em?

NY Bowhunter 01-02-2004 12:11 PM

RE: off season plans

I do have that many. I'm trying to figure out how to transfer this video I took last season with a flock of 58 about 20 yards from my ground blind. There's 3 or 4 that are dragging beards between thier legs on the ground. it's a pretty cool thing.
I have 2 different pieces of land with the same infestation problem. Nobody has ever hunted the little buggers either (that I know of). I'm too busy golfing that time of year. But, I'd be happy to chug a few kegs down at night with you fellas afterwards.

farmcntry 01-02-2004 12:13 PM

Sounds good. On my way up, I'll just pick up Taz.

get a new bow set up.scout. practice. bass fish. but always thinking of hunting season.some way or another.and also get some of those things done around the house.and go to work.my job is my living, but my :family:hunting:and fishing;is my life!

badshotbob 01-04-2004 11:27 AM

RE: off season plans

The best way to hunt the long beard is shear numbers - more kegs the better since they are a smaller target than a deer. I can even bring a few kegs down myself.

Dalejbrass 01-05-2004 01:15 PM

RE: off season plans

Same as always.........Pick up my new Mathews Outback, shoot 3-D, shed hunting, preparing 04' deer management plan on my properties, plant food plots, fertilize fruit trees, clear cut, burns, scout, pig hunt, etc. etc.
