I watched 4 bucks feeding in the lawn tonight. Of course my yard deer eat a lot better than the deer in the woods.[&:] They don't get run down. They're all so butterball fat it's rediculous.

That buck to doe ratio you mentioned would lead me to believe that is "one" problem area. If the disparity is quite large those few big boys are probably catching their second wind. If the remaining days alow, pick a nice frosty one. For some reason I have noticed when they get a nice fresh blast in their nostrils they tend to figure it's time to get up, flex their hismones a bit and start prowling for those wall flowers that have not yet been asked to dance. On the other hand they might be out buying some lotto tiks!!
