Take the sights off the bow and learn to shoot barebow/instinctive. It takes some effort to learn how to do it and to keep your shooting sharp, but... If you've got enough light to see the animal, you've got enough light to shoot.

Side benefits are you don't have to worry about peeps not turning right, sight pins rattling loose and losing zero, choosing the wrong pin or having to know the exact yardage. You can also cant the bow to clear your limb tips of any obstructions when you're in tight quarters.

It will probably limit your effective range some, but you're not likely to be shooting 40 yards in a low light situation anyway.

No I'm sorry I don't. I don't even try to squeeze the last few minutes anymore. I figure if they haven't gotten there while it's still light enough to see them well, they have one that round. I was actually thinking about this the other day. I have killed 5 deer this year with my bow and of the 5, none have been in low light situations, which is somewhat unusual for me. However, I much prefer this because the chances of making a bad hit are much greater in low-light situations not to mention the added difficulty of tracking. I would say if you can't make a good clean kill with your normal setup then it's too late to be shooting. JMO

My thoughts exactly.

The more you squeeeeze - the more things will go south

The best way IMO to squeeze it out is to get closer to the beds

Then you don't have to wait untill dark to see em

ArthurP,

I must be slicker than the average Joe cause I figured out how to do all of those things with my compound. I shoot a one pin moveable sight so I don't have to worry about which pin. I don't have to know the exact yardgage especially in a low light situation because I am going to hit somewhere in a 3 inch circle (1.5 dia.) of my point of aim at 20 yards (which is the farthest I will shoot in a remotely low light situation). Peep rotation isn't even an issue because a I shoot a Winner's Choice and the thing hasn't moved a frog hair in a couple of thousand shots (shot a couple of hundred shots before peep was installed) and thanks to the makers of LokTite my sight bracket hasn't worked loose in several years.

I've got a similar situation myself, except my problem
is tree limbs I can't see. We picked up a great new
hunting spot late in the season, but weren't able to
clear any shooting lanes for fear of ruining the area.
There are some awesome bucks on the property next
to us - 700 acres of no hunting for the past 20+ years -
problem is the old boys are the last to filter through
the small area I've got my stand in on their way to the
bean/corn fields. After trying to fool the noses of 15+
does that stage in the area, I'm lucky if I have a couple
minutes of shooting light when a shooter arrives. I've
only hunted there twice since it was just before shotgun
season started here - first time the wind swirled with
a great 8 pt at 30 yards coming in...Game Over[:@] -
second hunt I moved my stand to the edge where
the wind was more consistent and had a dandy 10 pt
demolishing a sapling at 25 yds in the last few minutes
of legal time- found him in my peep, settled the pin and
WHACK! When I took my stand down the next day I saw
multiple small tree limbs where I had shot[>:]. I just
couldn't see them when it was time to shoot.

Late season just opened and my stand is back up.
I'll probably only get a couple good hunts at that location.
I plan to wait for some nasty, cold weather...maybe they'll
move a few minutes earlier...gotta make these hunts count.
You can bet after the season I'll be in there with a pruner &
saw.

Other than waiting for some really cold weather to hunt
your spot I can't say much the others haven't. Sometimes
you just can't get close enough to the bedding areas...
probably why they are using the area.

Bowhunting is bowhunting...that's why we love it.

Best of luck!
