Default It must be nice.....

Sounds like about most everyone in here has a 30 or 31 inch draw length, Im jealous. LOL. Mine is a wimpy 27 inch. Currently i shoot a martin phantom fuzion. Its a great bow, but getting bored watching my arrows lob over to my target.. Sounds like i need a bk2. I would guess with my 65#,460ish arrows im around 220-230 if im lucky. If matt/pa puts up another bowtech report (which i hope he does) guy's got to be a salesman. Then i will be off to the bt store... I'm just venting a little. thanx fishon01

Yeah there is a lot of us long armed gorillas on this sight. I'm another 31" but I'm still shooting an old full size compound instead of them dinky little, fast shooting, high tech bows. Sorry, my jealousy is coming out!!! I'll get me one of them new bows yet.

Hey Fishon,

How do these numbers grab ya?......

BowTech BKII at 27" w/ 6.5" brace height(estimated performance for you little guys!assuming just a nock set.)

27" @70#.....350gr = Approx 305-308fps(that's not exactly lobbing them huh?)
27" @70#....460gr = Approx 266-270fps
27" @65#....350gr = 287-290fps
27" @ 65#....460gr = Approx 248-252fps

If you can handle the low brace height model @ 5.5" then up all of those numbers by about 10fps across the board!.......How's 315-318 at 27" draw sound??

And that's the second fastest bow in the world.....so your 220-230fps estimate for your Martin might be a bit "hopeful" shall we say!?

You poor poor little people......I said it before, and I'll say it again.....Thanks mom!!

fishon, this should make ya feel like a real speed demon.

575g arrow and 54# longbow = 176fps. Still kills em dead.

Oops, forgot to add that's with a 27 1/2" draw.

fishon, dont get too wraped up in the speed thing. I know it's nice to see those arrows zing out there at warp speed and stay nice and flat, but it's a heck of a lot more important to be consistantly accurate, and set and know your limits. My old bow only gets about 210fps with carbons, but I havent bought any beef in a LONG time. Somehow, I keep getting lucky enough to find deer that are just a little slower than ole' Slo-bo! Would I like a faster bow too? Sure. Would spending $700.00-$1100.00 put more venison in my freezer....? It's tough when there are so many great new bows out there though!!

fishon1,

Don't listen to any of these guys..they are all overbowed and are shooting too long of a draw length....

...and you should feel somewhat happy...because there aren't near as many bows out there for a 31 inch draw length as there are for a 27 inch...

Frank is right, these days finding a high-po bow that will fit his gorilla arms is getting difficult.

But he should realize that 10 years ago + it was the exact opposite situation for us shorter draws. When axle to axle lengths were long, brace heights were high and “SuperLite” aluminum shafts were something new, all the shorter draw archers suffered w/ performance, epecially 28” and below. Most bow manufacturers didn’t offer their performance bows in 28” and lower draw, and if they did the cams/modules were so detuned that there was no benefit…some companies built their bows so you chould short-string a longer draw model. The only way you could get any speed was to buy an 80 LB model, or cheat your draw length. Hence the reason that Archery had such a high turn-over rate…people got way too far in above their heads…they got Target Panic, couldn’t hit a thing and/or hurt themselves and dropped out of the sport. Most folks know better nowadays, and many Pro-shops are finally starting to fit people w/ correct draw lengths and weights (sadly, many still do not).

W/ today’s equipment the vast majority of archers are shooting flat-enough, and/or hard enough for all the but the biggest game animals assuming proper broadheads and shot angles are taken into consideration. W/ whitetails, we shouldn’t fret. Sure we all like the extra performance, who doesn’t? But don’t get worried about it. Just make sure you are shooting high quality arrows and broadheads and practice correctly. I would rather shoot a 60 LB bow anyday, but I don’t feel comfortable at those lower draw weights. I get sloppy w/ my form because it feels too easy to draw and hold w/ my larger stature.

Consider this… My 1992 Golden Eagle set at 73 or 74 Lbs, 29 ½” draw, 60% letoff shot an overdrawn 420 gain 2213 at 223 FPS. My 28 ¾” draw Y2K Extreme Solo option 2 will shoot a similar weight arrow @ 254 FPS set on 60 Lbs w/ 80% letoff.
