RE: using a crossbow?
I would say if you can legaly do it then go ahead. I try to do all types of hunting. Traditional archery, black powder rifles etc. I see as expanding on somthing I love.

RE: using a crossbow?
They are still illegal to use during the archery season around here, but they are allowing people to hunt with them during the gun season with them. In some places, like the urban areas around where I live, I think they are a good idea for those guys who can't or won't put in the effort to become good archers.
I personally have no problem at all with them, but I also don't think of it as archery. |
RE: using a crossbow?

RE: using a crossbow?
I used to shoot a PSE laser Magnum. it was old when I bought it in the early 90's. I practiced like a maniac. I had better range with that than I do with my horton steelforce crossbow. If I hadn't had my shoulder rebuilt by Uncle Sam (and you all are welcome) I'd still be using the compound. the biggest reason is it's just plain more fun. But I live in a decent state where they have the common sense to let me use a crossbow instead of making me miss bowseason all together. I know some bow hunters don't think I should no be allowed to hunt during bow season and I am willing to shave off the last two weeks of bow season for crossbow hunters(disabilities only of course);). No takers?? yeah, I didnt think so.
I enjoy hunting tremendously and I am one of the crossbow hunters who does practice a lot. even during the season. I match my bow to the arrows to the broadheads, etc. David |
RE: using a crossbow?
As long as they are used during muzzleloader/gun season, fine.
It's akin to calling a Modern sealed breech muzzleoader that utilizes; Pyrodex pellets, 209 shotgun primers, plastic sabots, jacketed bullets, and a rifle scope a "primitive firearm". It's not archery, not even close. Just my $0.02 |
RE: using a crossbow?
Here in NC only disabled persons are allowed to hunt with a crossbow. That should tell you something. |
RE: using a crossbow?
To me, crossbows are kinda like a big ol' pile of bait.
Some go for it, some don't. Clint |
RE: using a crossbow?
I use one , not because I want to , but because I have to.as for being easier,I wouldn't say that.
they are heavy, noisy, hard to handle in the woods and in a treestand.you hear about long range, thats bull.the range is not near as far as a good compound. they drop like a rock.25 yards is my maximum range, thats just my range, drops to much after that, and I shoot one of the most modern ones. if its legal,I think its ok to use.we don't need to bash other hunters if its legal. JMHO ; a xbow user.;) |
RE: using a crossbow?
A crossbow is not a bow and has no place in archery!
Thats how I feel and I know thats not the best way in the world to make friends but thats how I feel and I'm sticking to it! |
