Default 65% Let-off Rule Dead...finally

...that's right..Pope and Young finally got it right. On novenber 14th, by a vote of 294 to 148, the 65% letoff rule was repealed.

P&Y will now, RETROACTIVELY, allow entries taken with bows having greater than 65% letoff. In a move to coddle some of the purists, the trophy will be marked with an asterisk. In addition, the club will publish a separate record book for deer taken with traditional equipment.

Better late than never...

That's a shame. I'm real sorry to hear that they did that.

Coddling? LMAO. They had to because of coming under fire from so many guys who can't handle shooting 65% or less.

Woops! Sorry for the repeat. I guess I have been away for quite awhile, between work and hunting.

Just glad to see they finally got it right.

"Coddling" may not be the right word. How about "kissing up to" or "conceding"? Anyway, I don't have any problem with that sort of compromise, since they did get the bigger issue right: that is, that of all of the technological advances that P&Y has allowed over the years without uttering a word, let-off was a dumb issue to get all hung up on.

...as far as "guys who can't handle shooting 65% or less", that has nothing to do with it, IMHO. I shoot a compound with a 65% let-off because it feels more comfortable when drawing it back (i.e. no big dropoff when you hit the let-off range). But that is me, and I don't have an issue with hunters who feel that they can deal with that in exchange for more let-off. They still have to make the shot, let-off or not. If you want to look at it in those terms, Cougar, I guess we should also look at Guys who...

1)...can't handle shooting recurves instead of compounds.
2)...can't handle shooting cedar shaft arrows instead of carbon or aluminum.
3)...can't handle shooting without fiber optic sights.
4)...can't handle not having a peep sight.
5)...etc, etc, etc....

Yet with all of those innovations, P&Y remained silent. It's good to see that at least they finally got it right and dropped the argument over let-off. I do think the idea of a traditional archery-only record book is a great idea that was maybe overdue.

When did P&Y, B&C, B&S, or ABC become the point man on the hunting trail? All these bone inspecting org's could fold overnight and I would never detect any difference when bowhunting.
