Not sure but I think there may be deer dogs involved. It is a problem as if the dogs get on the guts,it' s tough to get them off.Hunted in Virginia where they used dogs, and they never gutted them in the woods.

i leave them where they drop, usually gone by the next morning, i watched a fox work his self to death trying to drag to a woods 1/4 mile away. had a buck run up to the blood stain the next night, didn' t seem to bother him.

gut where they fall (unless in a clover field or something)
then i usually cover it up with branches and stuff. this way nobody will walk up to it. the foxes and raccoons get rid of it within a day or two. makes the most sense to me.

RE: What do you do with the guts?

I killed 2 deer in my woods this Fall, and I left both gutpiles in the woods for any critter who wanted to feast on them. I returned to each gutpile several days later. By the way, I left the heart and liver with the guts. At any rate, when I returned, the only thing left was the stomach of each deer. Must be that most critters aren' t interested in the acidity? Anyone else with a similar experience?
