Talking about how deer can pop out of nowhere. This weekend i was hunting the back of my property on a powerline right away. Well when i hunt to stay alert i constantly look around well i turned my head and looked down the east side of the right away and then look to the north i looked east again and there was a 6pt buck not more than 15 feet from me, while i jumped cause it startled me the hell out of me and well so did the buck bye bye bucky!!!!!

I haven' t read any of the other responses but me......Really indecisive with actually picking a spot to set up. Man, I agonize over picking potential stand sites. Sometimes it really stinks..........Anybody else have this problem? Jim

I never had that problem until I started bow hunting. Now, once I climb a tree,
I start seeing other trees in the area that I think I should have climbed. When you limit yourself to a 20-25 yd shooting radius it really gets tough.

Agonize...Agonize....Man it' s tough for me sometimes. Meanwhile I' m probably just picking the fly poop out of the pepper!:D

Jimimac, I too have this problem - always second guessing stand placement. Which leads me to my biggest weakness - not staying on the stand long enough figuring, " well heck, I set up in the wrong spot anyway so I' m not going to see anything, it' s 10a already, pancakes sounds good."

You are not alone Jimimac, I' m always telling myself I could see much better over there, or it would be better at that other tree..... sigh.... I just need a little more patience I guess.

Like a few others here, sometimes I have a hard time staying awake. My biggest problem is not getting near enough sleep at night, which is almost always my fault.

It seems like you' d hear a deer coming through the dry leaves, but I' m sure all of us have had deer sneek right up behind them even in crunchy leaves or snow. One of the woods I hunt is a pine plantation. Nothing but soft pine needles on the forest floor there. You better be alert in that woods or you' ll miss out!

Mine is not really a patience problem...I think the reason I agonize over spot selection is because I am usually very patient in the stand so I really want to pick my spots carefully this way I' m not wasting my time in an unproductive area. You know, I should just let my good buddy pick my spots from now on...Less decisions.:) Jim

i think smoking is mine....it' s alot better now that i have a thermacell, but i still smoke alot, i know i have gotten critters while smoking, but i' ve spooked more than i have shot, so that is my weakness...and i guess not being willing to get down out of my stand and stalk....i' m afraid i' ll miss him come by if i do....
