HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
Ok... one hint per person, or a simple suggestion perhaps learned from experiance.....
My tip of the year : ALLWAYS keep your bow ready, arrow knocked, in your lap..... I missed a huge buck because I set my bow down last week because y son kept trying to talk to me...... and thats when mossy horns walked under us and my son looked at me and simply said, " Daaaaaaad" he was stunned, as was I..... I always have my bow ready and the one time I dont...... So thats my tip of the year. |

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
A good, cheap cover scent if you hunt near pine thickets is pure gum turpentine. A little dab on the bottom of each pant leg is all you need!

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
Listen very hard after a well hit deer is out of sight. I have had 2 deer in the last two bow seasons fall (pile up) within earshot. It is a beautiful sound. The other two in the last two years were loong tracking jobs.

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
buy a cough silencer and give it to your hunting buddy:D.......(see my post on " WOW I sucked this year!!!" thread)

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
tone down the grunt calls, most calls are too loud and will spoke deer, low sounds more realisitic, my 9 came grunting through after a hot doe, i could just hear it at 30 yards

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
Don' t overhunt a stand. Last year I hunted my favorite stand once a week. This year I hunted it just three times all season and saw three times as many deer.

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
Practice shooting a lot and get to a video archery range if you have one locally. It is hard enough to get a deer in bow range so don' t blow the shot.

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
hunt with a buddy that has a bum leg in case a bear attacks!! I heard that someplace............

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
If there is a 100 class 8 point 30 yards away, dont' be watching the four point that is 20 yards away, cause when you look back at the 8 point, he will be standing in the shooting lane, and then slowly walks away. Man I do some stupid stuff sometimes.

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
This shouldnt be taken the wrong way but I hope you get the point.
I have learned this year that when a good shot is available...take it...because the opportunity for a " great" shot may not come. |
RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
When you tell your dad that the frozen pallets at the trail head going into the swamp are slippery, never demonstrate just how slippery they are. As my friend did.:D

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
Patience and persistence. I was about ready to call it a season after the way things started for me. I keep going and keep sitting it the heat, in the cold, in the rain...

RE: HINTS - TIPS- LETS HEAR.......
-When drawing your bow to keep loose on very cold days ALWAYS check to be sure your arrow is still knocked after you let down. The next time you draw on a deer your arrow WILL fall to the ground.
-A couple of days before archery place your clothes in a plastic bag with a bunch of pine tree branches. No better cover sent than the real thing. -never climb a tree with smooth bark and then jump on the tree stand to make sure it won' t fall...it will (poor SOB) Finally -when drawing on a deer, make sure there are no other deer in the area that will see you. It only takes a yearling to ruin the chance at a monster. |
