I finally was fortunate enough to harvest a buck with my bow[8D]. Today was the first day I could hunt with my rifle, but I decided earlier this week to take my bow instead, and I' m glad I did.
At about 7:45 am, I had a doe come down the trail on my left. I knew there was a good chance that there would be a buck behind so I got ready. The doe got about 15 yds from me and I noticed a buck coming in on my right. I had to get turned a bit in order to get a shot off, so when the doe was about 10 yds from me, I gambled and starting making my turn. She saw me and snorted and ran about 20 yds, but the buck just stopped and watched her. He turned to walk in front of me and when he disappeared behind a tree, I started to draw back. Unfortunately the arrow was not on the rest
. The buck heard that and stopped and looked at me. Meanwhile, I' m at about 3/4 draw. After a brief staring match, I managed to get to full draw so I could get my arrow back on the rest. The buck took off after the doe and presented me with a walking 20 yd quartering away shot. I was able to make a perfect shot and I heard him crash less than 10 seconds later. He' s a decent 5x5, defintely a nice one to get for my first bow buck. Wish I would have remembered the camera.[:@] What a rush though!!!!
