Default How do you pull a tending buck off a doe?

5p I heard deer behind my stand. I caught the movement in the brush and spotted a big bodied deer. He stepped out of the brush and I almost fell off my stand. The huge 10 pt. came closer rubbing his antlers on every limb he could get to. I thought, here' s my wall hanger. I didn' t know that there was a doe he was tending even closer to me than he was until I saw her move from behind some blow down. The buck tended this doe at 25 yards for about 10 minutes. No shot because of brush. The doe eventually went back the way they came in and of course the bruiser followed. I hit my grunt call and nothing. Neither deer cared in the least. When the buck was 80 yards out, I hit the snort-wheeze. He was interested and looked back my way, but the doe took off, and of course shortly after, he followed her. I grunted again but to no avail.

My question: Have you called a tending buck off a doe, and if so, how?

I' ve been hunting for a long time and killed many deer, but don' t have a wall hanger yet. I know there are guys out here that are way more experienced than I and I hope you can help. Thanks.

If you figure out how to do it, let the rest of us know.

It' s damn near impossible.

I think your best bet in this situations is to try and call in the doe, not the buck. If the buck is not putting intense pressure on her a few well timed bleats, may get her curiosity. If you can get her to close the distance, there' s a good chance the big boy will also. I' ve lured a few small bucks from does by grunting, but never a true bruiser.

I think ILTrophy Hunter has the right idea.

Drop your pants , put lots of doe-n-heat urine on your arse and bend over!

If it works let us know!

The only way that I know of is to put a 125 grain Shockwave right behind his shoulder. That should pull the tending buck off the hot doe!

I agree with Il trophy hunter. Forget calling the buck off of the doe, I don' t think that is going to happen. You may however be able to get her closer with some light bleats or possibly a fawn distress call. Odds are much more in your favor of getting her attention rather than his.

I' ve heard a snort wheez call will work. Problem is, you have to think fast to make the call out of your mouth. Then you' d have to do it loud enough for him to here. You would be challenging him to a fight.

A real nice centerfold from " Doehouse" Magazine might work as well.

You couldn' t pull me off a doe if I was a buck. I would only leave for other doe' s.
