I have been hunting for about 13 years now and the one thing my father always told me If its to light to drag its not worth shooting.I guess that was his way of telling me dont shoot small deer. I live in new jersey and i always here " oh theres baby deer in nj" . Quite honestly im sick of hearing it. I have taken 6, 7 points or better in in the last 4 years all well over 170lbs(one being a 11) all with bow.(gun is to easy). I could not even count on all my fingers and toes how many small bucks i have passed on.Nj hunters are solely to blame for the lack of quality deer they hunt Me and my father are the only ones who hunt the property and if its not big enough to put on the wall guess what we dont shoot it. If everyone else thought like that man thered be alot of big bucks.Next time a 4 point walks underneath you admire him and say to yourself he' s gonna look good on my wall next year.

Whoa there Mikej92280,
this isnt the thread to be ranting and raving about how you are better than everyone else, if thats your choice to only shoot big bucks then congrats but to come on here and rant about someones first kill is just @$$#ing rediculous. Make your own post so we can ignore you if we choose. And by the way i suppose you dont shot does!!!! because if you would have read bigredneck' s story he plainly states that he thought it was a doe. And if you dont think shooting does is proper either just wait a few years until there are so many deer on your awsome!! hunting ranch that they all die of CWD.[:-][>:]
Sorry bout that, congrats on your TROPHY!!! bigredneck.

Congrat' s like everyone else !!!!!
But you posted on a public forum so...........IMO leaving a wounded deer to go get a knife because you didn' t want to dull another arrow is rediculous !!! If your broadheads are resharpenable.....it only takes a few minutes......if the blades are replaceable........it' s only a couple of bucks !! To me ......if your going to hunt ....you should make every effort to kill the animal as quickly and humanely as possible.........and make every attempt to find them (if needed) !!
Again , glad you got your first one......but would like to here a better recovery story next time !!

Some of the posts turned a bit ugly since the last time I was here. While I think we can all see a few places that need improvement, it was his first. More importantly we have a bowhunter that is hooked for life.
I am sure as he progresses through the different stages of deer hunting (first, bigger, biggest) he will improve his overall skills. I highly doubt the average Joe took a wall-hanger their first time. Give him some slack. Now if he had said this was his 7th year harvesting a deer he would be fair game for everyone. But this was his first.
