RE: 400lb buck shot in MN?
I think that I heard that the world record deer weight was over 500 lbs.( live weight I believe) Last week I ran into a guy from Michigan that said their average dressed buck weighed around 150 lbs. I thought that northern deer were bigger. I would think that if there are does with antlers, or deer with both sex organs that there could be giants and dwarfs as well, just few and far between.

RE: 400lb buck shot in MN?
Well I believe it, and to set the records straight, the world record heaviest whitetails were both shot in Minnesota, there was actually a tie, both dresses out at 425lbs. dnr estimate live weight of 511lbs, one was shot in the early 1920s, I believe 1924 if I' m not mistaken ad the other was shot in the late 80' s. but no one really keeps any offical records of deer weight so there may have been bigger shot. but these are pretty much recognized by most as the largest, and I' ve never heard of any bigger myself...

Oh I forgot to say also that OUTDOOR NEWS did some research and could not find evidence of a larger(in weight) deer taken in MN. since the Lenander Buck

RE: 400lb buck shot in MN?
We do have some HOG deer here in Minnesota. One of my friends father took a 16 pt buck opening day near Grygla. It field dressed 326 lbs and will score around 235 when official. Teir family owns 400 acres there, and practice deer management. " no" bucks taken under 8 pts is allowed. This is year 5 that they' ve done this, and now are seeing many bucks in trophy class. Proof that leaving the small ones will develop the big ones. Steve

RE: 400lb buck shot in MN?
I' ve hunted in this state for going on 20 years and I' ve seen alot of big deer. (never shot ' em though) I personally have pulled out bucks for people in that 260-270 range. Those were PIGS to pull out of the bush. The old timers talk of deer kind of close to this size, but 400+ seems high. I' m keeping my eye out in the papers for news but nothing so far.......

RE: 400lb buck shot in MN?
btpatriot, do you have liknks to any of the articles you read or anything? I' d like to see them...I did a little reserch on this myself a couple of years ago, and I got my info about the 425 pound weight and the tie, from several sources, including the minnesota dnr website. I saw pics and read articles about both the 425 pound deer. but I cant find much of anyting on it anymore, except for passing comments in various articles that the largest whitetail ever taken was 500+ from minnesota, but no detail...
