Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
So, how many of you actually hunt with blaze orange on??? Here in Minnesota, Gun season started last weekend, so now we have to where orange for most of the rest of the season, all but the last 2 weeks of the season and like one weekend somewhere in there. The laws are, we must have 50%, including your hat, on above the waist. I know that even being out there with the orange on, is better than not being out there at all, but it just seems like it is twice as hard to get a deer in bow range. Dont get me wrong, I know this is for safety, I was just wondering what everyone elses feelings are on this.

RE: Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
In Illinois we can' t bowhunt during gun season so take it either way.
1 way, we don' t have to worry about wearing orange. The other way, orange is better than sitting at home cleaning the garage. But let me ask you this... what would happen if your hat were to accidentally fall into a mud puddle and be a dull orangish brown hat right before you got in your tree? |
RE: Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
get high in the tree....then the orange won' t matter. if you hunt high enough, you don' t could wear any kind of clothing

[:' (] There is only one problem with getting as high in the tree as you can, I am afraid of heights, so my ladder stands are only about 10' high. So, that makes it even harder.

I hunt central Minnesota,(Elk River area). I' ve hunted in full blaze(jacket and pants) and had lots of success. The only tips I can give you are, 1- hunt higher stands, 2 - hunt thicker spots, 3 - Place your stands on the backsides of the tree from the trial. This gives you a shield to hide behind. 4 - place stands into big trees.
I get deer just as close with blaze as with camo. Good Luck! |
RE: Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
How about one of those camo umbrella style tree blinds? can you put one of these below you to help hide you from deer yet allow far away hunter/DNR to see the orange?

RE: Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
Here in PA we have to wear a minimum of 250 square inches of orange while moving if there is an overlap with muzzleloader or small game. So I wear a hat and a vest. While on stand you are permitted to take these off but you have to post a band around a tree near you. Sometimes I spot deer before I am settled so I sit (I' m a ground hunter) with it on. The deer don' t seem to notice...unless I move. I guess you will have to see what happens......

RE: Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
I haven' t had any problems with deer seeing the blaze orange. I gun hunt on the ground and don' t use a blind and have deer almost walk into me. As long as you are still they can' t pick you out. This year I have had a bunch of deer less than 20 yards and have not been seen by any of them.

RE: Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
Deer can' t see the orange. Get some camoed orange. And you said you only had to wear %50?? %50 of what? is that 150 square inches? If so, just wear it on your back, and the deer wont see it.
Your probably going to have to hunt the thick stuff anyway. The deer will probably be spooked. |
