RE: Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
Blaze orange , hot pink , who cares? Hunt the wind and be still!
Next year I' ll have to go out in a bright yellow sun dress with a flouresent green flower pattern just to prove a point!;) |
RE: Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
I agree with many others who say the blaze orange will not matter. I have had deer in bow range many times during gun season while wearing orange. Put it on and go hunt!

RE: Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
Yes, here in Wisconsin I' ll being bowhunting the late season with blaze orange on. I' ll fee naked, just as if I were bowhunting on the ground. But up in a tree, Unless you move they probably will not catch you.
Heck during our tzone hunt a couple of weeks ago, I had a small six pointer walk up a trail at 20 yards while I was in blaze orange standing in front of a big tree. I had my digital camera out, snapped three pictures with flash. He looked but wasn' t affected. I couldn' t believe it. To bad that the camera flash is so weak all I got was a dark shape. Dan |

I agree with Jen' s comments. If they don' t notice your movement then you should be fine. Blaze orange clothing, in and of itself, does not spook game. It is having something move in front of it or having something move with blaze orange on that triggers the deer' s alertness.
How about a ground blind? What does the law say regarding using a ground blind...either natural or commercial in conjunction with rifle season? You could still have your required orange on your person but be in a ground blind and have orange posted close to your location for safety purposes. |

I took a nice 8 pt and a coyote this past weekend in the Mn opener. I wear my orange to and from stand(stupid not to), but then change to camo in the stand. Throw your orange in your backpac, and your set. Steve

RE: Bow Hunting with blaze orange on?
In MD, bowhunters have to wear orange whenever any gun season is in--like the youth hunt this coming Saturday.
However, I saw a bowhunter wearing orange this year on opening day of bow season! He' s probably that same idiot I' ve seen who hunts the middle of a short soybean field, hangs his stands with-in arms reach from the ground in small diameter trees which make him stand out like a hawk perched in a tomato plant and comes in and leaves during prime time only to sit in bright sunshine on a log while constantly moving.[:@] |

Get some camoed orange would be my suggestion too. I wear it in and out but take it off once I' m settled in. We' re suppose to keep it on, but few of us do. I once saw some guys hunting on a Federal Wildlife Area that required X amounts of orange. The industrious little guys had sewn a wide strip on their back that could me tugged inside their shirt neck. Really the back panel won' t show if you have your back to the tree. They had also sewn some pocket width 18 inch strips of light weight orange above each pocket but under the flap. When they got in a tree they folded the strips up and slid them in their pockets. They wore reversible hats. If someone came they flipped the hats and pulled out the strips from their pockets and let them show. Quite ingenious I though. If needed to meet minimum inches you could also sew some strips inside the pants pockets to pull out.
