Just got done hanging him and figuring out just what happened with the shot. Everything I assumed actually held true on this one. Due to the steep angle, I did bust through 4 ribs, I did stomach shoot him, but my arrow came to rest with the tip piercing the liver. I had about 8-10 inches penetrating him.
We got into the area I last saw him and immediately jumped a buck, so we got nervous. We did find a perfect blood trail (after a bit of " body searching" ) and he was piled up in his bed about 60 yards from where I last saw him. Though there were multiple dry heaves while gutting him, the meat is in good condition. But man that stuff stinks. The 8 pointer considerably shrunk as well, but it' ll make a pretty skull mount.
As for the kind of bow I shoot, I got it from a buddy, who got it from a rep as a demo bow. The name is a Hoyt Redline w/ a Raptor cam, 31" draw.
Not advanced enough for a dig cam yet, so I got to get the pic' s developed first, but nothing too impressive other than a good enforcement lesson on what to do and what not to do after a marginal shot. I' m happy -- I got the day off work now.

Well first of all I am glad you found him. Second if you went through 4 ribs and still got 8-10 inches of penetration that says an awful lot about the penetration power of Spitfires if you have the KE to shoot them, that is quite impressive!

I' m glad to see you did the right thing by waiting--I' d have done the same thing based on what you saw. Great to hear that you found him this morning, I knew the meat would be fine. Congrats.
