OK. Story time.....
I have actually been hunting a scrape and rub line for the last three years that was under and on the same trees all three years. The two years before this I had my stand in a more open area of the woods but this year i moved it over 4 scrapes I found in some real thick stuff. I hunted the stand about 2 days a week trying not to put too much pressure on it. Finally on 11/03 at 630 am I caught movement out of the corner of my eye and eased around to see the deer coming out of a cedar glade behind me. I stood up in my stand and turned around and waited for what seemed like an hour (about 30 seconds). I checked to make sure he was a legal buck drew my bow and never looked at the rack again (I promise) I bleated with my mouth to get him to stop at 5 yds maybe a little less and shot strait down into his back (the only shot I would have had if he stayed on that trail). When my arrow struck him and he ran gave a mouth bleat again that stopped him. While he was stopped I grabbed my grunt call and grunted every time he started to move that seemed to slow him down dramatically. I went to the last spot I could see him through the woods and started looking from there. There was no blood because the arrow struck directly next to the spine and broke two ribs but didnt pass through. I found him on that same trail and not until I got up to him did i realize the magnitude of his rack. I didnt even know he had the drop tine until I picked up his head when I was field dressing him. Man that really made my day. I have always dreamed of a droptine buck. He had a droptine on the other side but it had been broken off for quite some time from the looks of his rack. Sorry im so long winded Im still a little excited about that one.
P.S. I took him to the taxidermist that same day.. lol
