BOWFANATIC EATS CROW!!!!

Well folks , Saturday evening I had the pleasure of watching my first buck chasing a doe experience of the year. It all started when I noticed a couple deer running around in the canary grass about 75 yards in front of my stand.

At first I thought it was a couple little ones running and jumping around. But when the doe headed into the woods I imediately realized it was an adult deer.

She got about 15 yards into the woods when I seen why she was running. The buck stepped into the woods on her trail and I knew imediately he was a shooter.
She angled her way toward me slowly. He walked around my side to check a scrape line before angling my way and stopping 20 yards away on a creek bottom. Unfortunately he stopped behind a nice tangle of bushes[:' (]

He just stood there watching the does every move as if relying on her instincts for his own safety. I began to get worried when she started stomping her feet with every step. She was now down wind from me and her nose was working the air. I closed my eyes and prayed for the winds to swirl away from her but it did no good. She knew something was wrong and she turned around and trotted the way she came. Obviously , the buck followed her![:' (]

The buck would have beaten my biggest so far of 130 3/8" . He was a 10 pt with huge mass and long tines. As he followed her , it was then that I got a good look at his width. He stuck out a good six inches beyond each ear.

Why did I title this " BOWFANATIC EATS CROW" you ask?

I' ll never waste another dime on scent-lok clothing!!! I' m going back to my old ways of trying to eliminate as much of my odor as possible and covering the rest by storing my hunting clothes with cedar boughs , acorns , leaves , etc. and hunting the wind.

Oh , I' m not done hunting that buck yet! He' s on my mind 24 hours a day and gives me great motivation to crawl out of bed at 4am!

Yea and the feathers gag you to boot![:o] As some others have said scent lok suits help, but is the cost really worth it?

Most hunting products attract more hunters than game!

Bowfanatic:

You do not have to eat Crow and nobody should say " I told you so!" All the pro and con debates that occur here are beneficial for readers to make better decisions. However, in the end, it is a person' s right to use or reject what they choose to use or reject.

In defense of " Scent-Lok," the doe might have detected a scent that was coming off or out of something else, not what might have escaped through the suit.

Personally, I would not pay the cost for the clothing. IMO, what is claimed that the clothing can do e.g., total scent control, is one of the biggest hypes to come down the pike.

Bowfanatic, it seems like you are under the impression that Scent-Lok clothing is a replacement for proper scent control. It isn' t. Any carbon clothing is meant to help with scent control. Maybe it didn' t work. Maybe you got sloppy. Could have been your boots, your bow, or your stand. I am not saying that getting busted wasn' t the fault of your scent-lok clothing. It may well have been. While I was wearing mine I took a great buck less than two weeks ago. The wind was not in my favor.

Definately ! I wonder if I could market a body suit made out of a garbage bag with a camo pattern. Put some elastic on the wrists, neck, ankles and waist. :D

Jeramy I bet it would contain human scent just as well as a Scentlok suit and cost next to nothing, use it once and throw it away! All you would have to figure out is how to make it quiet and kill the plastic smell!

Hey Taz, I represent that remark!:D[&:][:o]

I' ve had Scent-Lok seemingly work and I' ve had it fail....I think it does help though. You just have to make sure that everything else that isn' t covered in carbon is taken care of in some other manner like scent spray or cover scent....BTW, I' m a firm believer that NO SCENT is much better than cover scent.

Just like you can' t say getting busted was or wasn' t the fault of scent-lok clothing, you can' t say, not getting busted, was or wasn' t because of the same clothing. Every day hunters have animals come in down wind, while not wearing scent-lok. Who knows exactly why they weren' t busted. Maybe it was because they ate carrots the night before. Whatever the reason, no one will never know, and I personally will not credit something that I can' t imagine working. The carrot theory holds more water in my opinon.
