I saw the coolest half-white fox squirrel today!

Around 7:30 while on stand this morning, I picked up some movement about sixty yards in front of me. It looked like sort of a white mink or something picking his way through the underbrush, and since I haven' t seen a deer in three days, the little object attracted all of my attention.
As he made his way closer to me, I saw that it was a very weird, mutated fox squirrel. His tail has the regular coloration: red with a smattering of black highlights. But from his tailbone on up, he' s pure white! He has black " points" on his ears, as well as his paws, and the underside of him is darker as well. It' s truly a very odd contrast of coloring... and I want him bad!!
I' m sitting in front of five pecan trees, and he worked his way to within about thirty yards. I thought I was going to be able to take him with my bow (I would have much preferred to harvest him with the ol' Mathews), but he jumped upon a little tree and then leapt onto a big pecan and ran up about forty yards, where he commenced cutting on nuts the rest of the morning, along with the six or seven of his normal-colored running mates.
I was going to pull my stand today, but I left it after seeing him. I' m going back out tomorrow morning with the .22 to see if I can get him. I' ve heard of some small populations of all-white squirrels in Tennessee as well as some wildly colored ones in Canada, but we have no such animals around here! He' s truly a one-of-a-kind, and would make a super-cool mount!

It sounds similar to the Kaibab squirrel found on the Kiabab Plateau of Arizona. This is a pure white sqirrel with a jet black tail. The Kaibab Plateau is just above the north rim of the grand canyon and these squirrels are everywhere. They get their coloring from the white bark birch trees and the near black bark of the fir trees. The kiabab deer are some of the biggest that I have ever seen. If your ever near there drive to the north rim.

I saw an albino squirrel in D.C. once. Pink eyes and everything, like you I wanted him bad so I shot him, right there on the mall. Still have the picture in my scrap book too.
They' re pretty neat looking. I' d definitely like to get a mount of one. Good luck with him.

Hey man. I shot a half white fox squirrel last september. Just picture the top half of a foxy bn white and bottom regular colors. He was a old foot I tell ya. Had a set of plums on him lol. Head was white, ears regular and almost like he had a mask on, of regular colours n the face. Love to email u a pic. I live in Alton il my self and we dont have any white tree rats. The 1 I got was the only iv seen, among other people as well. The city that the whites do live in is spelled and pronounced very similarly to Alton. I'm not tryin to be rude or question you in any way man.

I love to kill em too. We have mostly greys. When I was a kid and me n POP hunted every chance we got the greys were only seen in town, never in the timber. Now that's all anyone sees in the timber is them greys. It's to the point were if i c a foxy when im hunting ill pass on shooting it, unless my black mouth curr (squirrel n coin treeing machine) trees it. Them lil greys r tastey n tender so i dont complain. Good to hear that there are fellow squirrel hunters out there. My buddies like to deer hunt and chuckle at me for loving them tree rats, LOL. I have more fun than they do sitting in their stands though. Take care
