Son of a B----

I was at my cabin this weekend and on fri moring saw 3 does passed on all of them, friday night saw a nice 6 pt but stayed about 40yards from my stand and i didn' t feel comfortable with the shot. On sat moring i decieded to take this nice doe that walked in on my bait pile. I put my pin on the heart and smack deer goes off and i am happy good shot. wait about an hour get down from my stand and look at my arrow. No blood!!!! What the hell??? Check some more there is some fatty tissue and little specks of blood on the fletching. I think to myself i knew i hit her, i thought i hit her good. THan it starts to rain. I am at a crossroads i know that rain does not make it easy to track so i should go right away, but passed experience tells me to wait a little cause it looks like a gut shot. So i wait about 4 hours and the search begins we find little blood every so often than a good blood, than it just stops. i call my buddies and they come out and help. One of them brings his dog and we search. she gets right on the trail and we are headed to the swamp. but than the dog looses the trail. we keep looking for blood and nothing. We go back to the last blood and try crossing and circling... and nothing. than that night get back in the stand and see six deer nice fourpoint adn deciede no to shoot cause i had a deer out there that i was determind to find. on sunday moring we went to the swamp to do some bird hunting and there she is, i find my doe in the middle of it, but the damn coyettes ate about 3/4 of her. Son of a b---- we were so close when the dog lost teh trail not more than 15 yards, the meat was ruined and i am heart broken. Well what a bummer.

I do not really understand why you would go back hunting instead of staying on the trail.
Once you lose the trail then its time to start doing some grid searches until you find the deer. If the dog was only 15 yards from the deer when it lost the trail it seems like you did not look very hard.
Once you hit a deer it is YOUR responsibility to find that deer, if you have to miss some hunting time because of it thats too bad.
I do not mean to be harsh, I just speak the truth.
