Grafting and cross pollination has come light years along since the 50's. Along with genetic reassignment and all that jazz.

That's not entirely factual. Both processes are still pretty much the same today as they have been for hundreds+ of years.

A better understanding of each ones potentials and limitations, as it applys to specific long term goals, has become better understood in recent years for sure.

Each one has it's own place. That might be a good discussion for another thread.
