I live in Motgomery County, Texas and the deer here start putting scrapes on the ground in early September and seem to be finished by Thanksgiving.

I' ve seen bucks chasing does in late February here in Mississippi. But, the majority of action occurs b/t Dec. 15 - 31. I just so happen to be taking 2 weeks off from work during that time

Do you think that past repopulation programs have anything to do with deer coming in season at different times?
Didn' t they relocate deer around the country?

i had a buck chase a doe in front of me this morning. I think the small bucks start early to get a jump on things before the big boys get out and take charge. This afternoon i found a 2.5' wide scrape on the ground not 30 yards from where i saw that buck, still had a puddle in the middle of it. The peak of the rut is usually later in the year, but there are always early and late bucks and does.
