RE: Northern Illinois Buck
Looks like this weeks cold snap coming in has got em moving a little more!
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
That' s a nice buck. Congrats.
I was watching one like that last year, then the guy on the property next to me shot it, then it ran over a hill, under my stand, and died. Figures. On a sidenote - it always amazes me the people that post from various places in the country that talk about how big our deer are here. I guess just because I' ve never hunted deer outside of IL or WI I just take it for granted. Not taking anything away from that beautiful buck, but there are certainly even bigger ones in the area! I guess I should be thankful my parents decided to raise me here in IL. :D |
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
congrats, wathcing one real similiar to it.
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
Great buck, congrats!!;)
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
I shot a 9-pointer last night at 6:15 that is very similar to him!!!!! He' s got a smaller rack but it looks like you would just shrink that one down and you' d have to one I got. I' ll post pics and story later.
Congrats man!!!!!!!!!!! |
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
Don' t worry Legacy, having the fork horns illegal in PA is just going to make more 8' s for next year. Just wait and see. Within two years you will possibly have a chance at a nice buck like this one.
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
good job. Im down in central Illinois, perhaps i will see a nice one pass through my woods in my next few hunts. Congrats.
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
I' m pretty sure that deer swam over from Iowa. Nothing bigger than fork-horns in Illinois. :D
BTW, congrats on the deer! |
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
Jason,
Probably did make the swim but I think it was down the Rock from Wisconsin since it' s only about 2 miles from where I shot him.....I lurk at the IBS website alot but don' t post. How' s things looking down your way? |
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
I am not into record books but think what he would score IF the other side was 5 also.
good Buck & yes-TYPICAL of Ill., Iowa & Ws. For us that have been born & raised in this area, over the years you will see several HUGE bucks & we take Bucks in the good to very good on a regular basis. You still have to work for them BUT the potential to running into a " BIG BOY" in our woods (any woods) is always there. I passed on 2 fork horns Fri. evening at 15 yds. & 5 yards as I know " DADDY" is around. Had 2 MaMas & 3 of their fawns go by yesterday. I know I am not into record books thou I have several animals that would qualify-just want to see if I can do it for my own satisfaction in my old age. Good luck to all this season & Congratulations on a great deer mshane. |
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
MShane,
I' m pretty much straight east of you, in Kendall County. Hunting Kane this year too. Things are going well so far. I' ve got meat in the freezer, and a pair of velvet antlers on the wall from Wisconsin. Last weekend I took a doe in WI and earned my buck tag for the CWD Zone. Can' t wait for November! I did some squirrel hunting at Castle Rock a couple months ago and saw a TON of deer in there. Not the most hunter-friendly habitat though. Hiking through a couple miles of multiflora rose wasn' t fun. |
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
So you say his big brothers are still out there?
Should I bring my sleeping bag or do you have a spare bed for me?:D Congrats on a great deer. |
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
that is a dandy congrats:D
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
Congrats on the buck, very nice!
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
Jason,
You were about 2 miles as the crow flies from where I' m hutning this year when you were at Castle Rock. The multiflora rose is terrible around this whole area. Makes scouting and then dragging out later a literal pain in th butt. |
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
Great looking buck, congrats
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
by23856... I would have you over but unfortunatly I amthe only one that has permission for the property and can' t bring anyone with, SORRY.:D

RE: Northern Illinois Buck
Nice deer Shane. One quick question? How did the Scorpions perform in your opinion?
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
Good looking buck, congrats, hope you get his pa!
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
Rico.... The scorpion did it' s job becasue I actually made a pretty good shot, got mid right lung, top of heart, low left lung on exit. Wasn' t real impressed with the blood trail though. Last year I used Rocket Sidewinders and had a blood trail a blind man could have followed, but he piled up in 60 yds so I guess I shouldn' t complain. I did screw the Sidewinders back on my arrows though, because there a couple more larger than him on the farm.
On a side note, took him to the taxidermist last night who is an official scorer for P&Y and he said he would go 135-140 gross, he said he would still make the book even with the deductions for the extra tine on the left side, I guess me & my buddys estimate of 127 was a little low. |
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
TTT for RICO
|
RE: Northern Illinois Buck
That is a really nice buck! Hope I get a crack at one like that this season!
|
