Stupid Deer
#1
As everyone probably knows by now on my new lease we are over run by hogs.
My main concern this year is to thin them out.
So what we have done is put in a hog trap or 2.
Now these traps are clearly marked " Hogs enter here" [&:]
I get down to the lease on Friday after noon set up camp go and put in another feeder then proceed into hog hollow to set the trap and bait it.
I get up Saturday morning to a full moon but decide to go and sit on stand for a couple of hours anyway nothing was moving so about 9am I get down put the bow back in the truck replace it with the 357 and go and check the hog trap as I rounded the bend into hog hollow I here something in the trap banging and crashing trying to get out, so I cock the 357 just in case. I have been charged by big boars a couple times which is why I carry the 357
When I get to full view of the trap there are 2 yes thats right 2 doe' s caught in the trap.[:' (]
I uncock the 357 shake my head and go and let the doe' s out. they bolt out of there like there is no tomorrow.
The only reason I set the trap in this spot was that with all the pics I have from the game cam never showed a single deer but a lot of hogs.

I wonder if those deer will learn to not do it again. I have some live traps around my place for skunks. I have let our cat ot of them more times than I can count. The cat never learns. I didn' t think deer were that easy to catch.

Sounds like a cool trap.
Never heard of such a thing - but then again got no hogs round here
What do you do - walk up to the hog and shoot it?
Are they legal during deer season?
What do you do if you find a 250" class monster in one?[>:]

If there is a hog in the trap I just walk up and shoot it we can hunt them down here 24x7.
You really think I would open the gate and crawl into the trap to drag it out alive do ya[

I am game but not that game
It dont matter what size deer is in the trap I will let it go, I do doubt tho a 250 class would get into it anyway
I was surprised that the doe' s where able to get into it the trap, it is long and wide but not that tall the opening into it is about 3 foot square so the doe' s must have just about been on their knees to get into it.
I dare say those doe' s wont go into another trap and my guess is they wont go near soured corn for a long time

I know exactly what you' re saying. In NOVA - especially the Clifton area, the deer population has exploded and they are everywhere. Not to mention their habitat is being taken up as more and more houses are built every year. Anyways, I bowhunt there a lot and it' s common to see a group of deer near you, then when you shoot one they leave, but they' re back w/in 30 minutes. Time for #2
