Default What Gives With These Dang Deer?

Man, these dang deer are killin me. The first two days of season were awsome. The deer were really moving. The bucks were really vocal and looking for some doe' s. The temps were in the low to mid 30' s. Well, the past few days, the temps have been in the 70' s and the deer just aren' t moving. I have put in around 24 hours of hunting this week and I have seen a total of 6 deer, all were when the temp was cooler.

I have tried finding this deer, but just cant. I have hunted funnels between bedding and food sources. I have hunted funnels between bedding and more bedding. I have hunted creek bottoms hoping to see deer get a drink with this warm weather. I have hunted field edges hoping to have some doe bring out bucks (but the does didn' t even come out)

The October Lull is here, and I HATE IT

Next week the highs are supposed to be in the low to mid 50' s, so, I am hoping that the 20 degree temp difference will put them on their feet again.

Saturday, Oct. 18th is looking the most promosing. It is supposed to be 55 on the 17th with rain, 56 degrees on the 19th and rain, but, Saturday is supposed to be a high of 38 degrees with snow showers. I can' t wait to hunt that day

The october lull might have something to do with it. I was seeing deer all over last weekend with temps in the low 60s for highs and upper 30s for lows. Heard reports of over 50 deer checked in at local sporting goods shop on Saturday alone. Had a friend hit one and his brother miss one. I shot one and saw 2 others. They were definately on the move this early in the season, then THE FULL MOON. Seems to have put movement to a stand still along with mid to upper 70s. Hunting has come to a screaching halt. Didn' t even need my flashlight to walk to the stand this morning the moon lit the way even with some fairly thick fog. Hopefully next week with forcasted highs in the low 60s and upper 50s and no more full moon we' ll all be back in business!
