Sometimes when I am out hunting and the wind is in my face, I swear I smell the musty odor of deer even though I don' t see them. Have any of you guys ever experienced this and then have deer show up? Just wanting to know if my imagination is getting the best of me.

I can relate to what your saying. I was shed hunting one time, and I started smelling this musky smell. I thought it was coming from this old scrape that I had just passed, but then I jumped up 6 deer. I do think that you can smell the deer if things are just right.

Several times I' ve smelled a buck before I saw him. Last year, during the rut, I was walking in one morning in the dark and jumped a buck. I was able to smell where he ran by the strong musky smell.

Yep, you can smell deer. Really good during the rut when they are wizzing on themselves.
If you ever go on an elk hunt and get down wind of a rutting bull you can smell them from 100 plus yards away. It' s a wonderful smell that you,ll never forget.

Definetly not your imagination
I have smelled deer when hunting before but it is much more noticeable during peak rut times. If you smell it you' d better get ready quickly
