Default The Big One is Finally Down!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I' d been hunting this big buck since the season started. Had him within 20 yds of me on three consecutive hunts and got a shot at him once. Well, I got a phone call last night and the guy told me the buck I was after was dead. Car hit him about 150 yds from my treestand. The guy described him to a T. 200 lb plus 8 pointer with a 20-24 inch spread and long tines. Man my heart sunk.

Some of you guys might remember my post a month and a half ago about going after a different buck in this same area but I said that last year the big buck around here had gotten hit by a car. Just doesn' t seem fair.

Solax, that really stinks and is very heart breaking. In one of the areas that we hunt that is in a suburb, that scenerio is played out almost every year. But ya, know what, every year a new big boy moves in.

I can relate all too well. About 10 years ago I had been hunting a large 9pt but could never get within 40 yards of him. A local farmer found him one day dead in his cornfield with both back legs broken. Looked like he was clipped by a car while crossing the street.

Like Bobco, I live and hunt in a suburban area and have seen about one really nice buck get hit every year, usually after I had already seen him and started dreaming about getting him in my sights. I feel for ya, but another will move in. However, it does hurt the constant well spring of hope that you have while sitting in your stand knowing a big guy is out there. That' s the part I have the hardest time with.

It sucks, I did it too. I shot a 9 point with a 20 inch spread. It went over the hill and disappeared. I just sat there and was giving it 30 minutes before I walked over the hill, confident that it had not gone far. It wasn' t long, I heard a truck door slam. I hurriedly got out of the stand and made it up the hill. As I went over the top, I could see two guys putting my deer in a truck on an old country road. I holllered and took off after them but they took off before I could get there. I never saw them or my deer again.

Thanks guys. It' s a horrible, horrible feeling. There is another nice buck that he was traveling around with so he' s probably still out there. The worst part is I had my chance and I blew it. Now he' s gone forever. We don' t get many big bucks like him around here, he definitely would have been one of the bigger ones taken this year. Oh well. Guess that' s hunting.

It does hurt, especially when the other guy rubs it in the wound. You might remember I was hunting hard for a white deer that was around my house last year. The day after the season closed a jerk from the area stopped to show me the deer. He said hey heard you spent three months hunting this deer. Hee Hee he said I just run the mother over with my truck he said Beats standing for hours in the cold.
