My scent lok suit stinks......literally
#1
I bought a scent lok suit lat year and had great sucess at the beginning of season with it. Toward the end of season though, I noticed a strange chemical like odor on it. I have tried washing it in the carbon wash soap and have dried it several times to try to get it to release whatever odor it has on it. It almost smells like paint fumes have gotten on it but I always keep it stored in a scent safe plastic bag.
Anybody else seen or heard of this? I don' t even wear it anymore because I always get busted when I try. Does it have any kind of warranty that you know of? I ave emailed scent lok to dsee what they have to say.

I' ve never had a problem with either my Scent-lok or
ScentBlocker Plus. I' d keep contacting Scent-lok until
you get ahold of them. Seems strange that your suit
would, all of a sudden, take on a strange odor.
Good luck-

I had this EXACT same problem. Kept my liner suit in HS plastic " scent free" bags. Thought I was doing everything right. Ended up with the same exact odor. I called Scent Lok, they couldn' t figure it out, recommended I wash them in hot water then dry on high for several cycles to " refresh" them. I did, and when I used atsko sports wash (walmart, $4), it finally got rid of the odor. But it kept reoccuring.
I just got my clothes to wash and get ready, they had been stored in a rubbermaid type container since last season, only I didn' t put my scent lok in the HS bags, even though they bags were also in the container. EVERY SINGLE PIECE of my hunting clothes had the same chemical smell. I grabbed the plastic bags, stuck my head inside and smelled them, they are definitely the source of the odor. All the smell washed right out, and the bags hit the trash can.
I didn' t notice the problem the first year I used these bags. Each and every year after, I did. I guess over time they break down and contaminate your clothes. HS probably designed them this way so you' d buy new ones every year...

Even if yours aren' t HS bags, chances are it' s a similar type of plastic used to be scent tight. Ditch the bags, wash your stuff in sports wash (carbon in hot, all other in cold), hand others out to dry, carbon in the dryer on high for a good 2-3 cycles, store all in a big rubbermaid type snap on lid tote and you should be back in business.

My suit smells like that also! I though it was supposed to smell that way! That may be why I haven' t seen any deer this year![

I smell it the worse after I put it in the dryer. I keep mine in the green bag the I though was for the scent lock. I may hunt without mine next time to see if it helps.

Who knows what these storage bags are made of? If they' re just some old cheap pasticized thing it' s very possible your suit is sucking up the petroleum distillates used in making the stuff. I store mine in these H2O proof canoe bags with roll top, snap tops. They' re heavy duty, more odor free than most, extremely durable and handy for all kinds of things. The suits DO have a distinct odor to them anyway, but it' s nothing you can place with a name for most. The suits are impregnated with activated carbon. I spent 30 years in the dry cleaning industry. Activated carbon is what we use in the filtering process to suck up dyes in the fluid. In the early years we bought it in cases of 1 pound bags. It has a very distinct aroma all it' s own, kind of like smelling coal dust but not exactly. Some of you may be smelling it or you may be smelling the stink of the bags you store it in.

Mine has smelt the same way since day one.- A paint drying on the wall smell. I keep mine in a carbon lined bag made for scent lock suits. It wasn' t used at all last year due to this. I e-mailed and called scent lock and they acted like they had never heard of such a thing and that it must have been me.
Go figure, $200.00 scent free outfit that smells like drying paint and now resides in my closet.[:' (]

Reading these types of posts makes me nervous. I just forked down $240 for a suit about a week ago but haven' t taken the tags off it yet. Makes me wonder if it' s even worth it.

Jeramy, if you follow proper storage precautions and avoid plastic bags, you should be good to go.
My liner also had the distinct carbon smell others have mentioned. That' s not a problem, and I have had deer directly downwind of me at ground level in a stiff breeze and they' ve not noticed a thing.
The plastic bag smell is much stronger than the carbon smell.

my carbon suit of 4 years has a very distinct smell especially coming out of the dryer. i thought it was supposed to smell like that. i dont notice it when im in the field and i dont think the game smells it. i just thought it was the smell of a recharged suit. i keep it stored in a heavy vinyl waterproof type bag that came with it for free from cabelas. never put it in a plastic garbage bag or similar.

This is definitely a paint type smell. It doesn' t smell like a plstic bag to me. I use the Ziploc giant storage bags to store mine.
