How many hunt alone?

How many hunt alone?

I prefer to deer hunt with one partner but this year I' ll be bowhunting alone some of the time. Might have to call the wife if I need help dragging one out! :D:D

RE: How many hunt alone?

I hunt with my father-in-law when he decides to go, which is not often anymore, and my brotherinlaw some. But I hunt alone a lot, less scent in the area. Just make sure your loved ones know where you are going in case something happens.

I hunt alone also, and agree with Cougar, Make sure someone knows where you' re going. I take my cell phone with me also, in case I am injured but still conscious. It is also nice to call your hunting buddies immediately after getting one- to rub it in and ask for help dragging it out :D.

I always try to hunt with somebody else. But if I can' t find anybody to go with me then I will go by myself. I let someone know exactly where I am going to be just in case something happens

90% of the time I am alone - and like it that way[:-]

Don' t need anyone else messing up what I can mess up all on my own:D

RE: How many hunt alone?

It' s probably a 50/50 split for me. Weekday' s I' m on my own, and the weekends I hunt with my two buddies. It is nicer to share the day' s events with my hunting bud' s though. That way, we get to see who can lie better than the other guy.:D From a logistical standpoint, we hunt different areas of the the farm, and this has worked to our benefit I believe. We are not fouling each other up, but the real benefit comes from having three sets of eyes looking around the different areas. There have been many times when we will change setups because of what the other guy is seeing. A common gameplan change we employ will be to set up two guys closer to each than normal because of deer movement patterns. This has worked out great. Deer hunting can sometimes be a team sport even though you are on stand alone.

RE: How many hunt alone?

I do quite a bit of hunting on my own, but enjoy the company when others can go. I am going hunting alone for a few times over the next week, then my buddy returns up north so we will head out together for a couple of nights.

In new areas, or extended hunts, I always head out with others.

RE: How many hunt alone?

Im most likely by myself when im bowhunting. If someone goes with me, its only for the car ride, then they go to a different stand. Allthough, this year i think me and a buddy my be in the same blind sometimes and try to video tape someone. Other than that, I fly solo.

RE: How many hunt alone?

Bow season I hunt alone. During BP and rifle a group of us take off to the Three River/Hanobia hunting area. We share the camp site but we all split up to do our hunting. I am much more dedicated when it comes to hunting then the other guys so it works out better for me to hunt alone. They know where I am headed. So if I don' t come back they know where to start looking. Some times when I head down to Honobia on my own I send an email to my dad with an arial photo of the area I will be hunting. I set a deadline of when I will call him. If he does not hear from me he will know where to start looking too.

Alone. Can' t imagine any reason why I' d want to take somebody with me. I hunt small game with my son, and will soon rifle hunt with him. However, for now...it' s just me and I like it that way. I do take the cell phone to call in the reinforcements if I arrow a moose ;)

i hunt alone quite a bit but always tell someone where im hunting. i even take my girlfriend to my spots in the off season and give the areas whacky names like the bed spring road stand so even she can remember the areas and where to find me if need be because i have at least a dozen different spots that are miles off the beaten path. :D

RE: How many hunt alone?

BOTH -

I really like the solitude of being alone - only recently (post kids) did I ever worry about telling anyone where I was going - and I liked it that way. I still hunt alone maybe 1/3 of the time.

The rest of the time its with family and freinds. As much as I like to hunt alone, I think I like the Camp atmosphere better - and hearing the stories and sharing in the good and bad luck.

Thats whats great about hunting & fishing as a sport - you can have it both ways[:-]

RE: How many hunt alone?

I like to hunt with my friends as much as possible. but if they are not available, i go hunting on my own. when i hunt with buds, sometimes we hunt real close and sometimes we split up. i would say as i get older now with a family, the time spent with them is more valuable than ever. my daughter is 5 now an i took her several times last year but we never saw a deer. we just had a good ol time eating candy, singing songs, coloring, and taking a nap while on stand together. as for my wife, she hunts alone because she says she can spend quality time at home where its warm inside and if she' s gonna get up and go in the cold she wants it quiet. ha ha. oh well, to each their own idea.

99.9% of the time I hunt alone. In the smaller woodlots I hunt, less is more.

RE: How many hunt alone?

My most enjoyable hunts are with my buds also in the woods. I like the after the hunt camararderie.
My most enjoyable hunt to date was with my bud ~40 yards away in another tree. We pulled a triple[:o]. I shot a doe:) and then he shot a boar and then I shot a pig within 15 minutes. In East Texas to boot!! Talk about some high fiving going on!!

But, most of my hunts are alone:(. Being a shift worker has its ups and downs.

I prefer to hunt alone, but have been taking friends along alot lately and introducing them to hunting.

Sometimes when I make a kill, and the hunt was awesome and there is no one to share the moment with I find myself wishing there was.

95% of my hunting is done by myself. I really like the fact that I don' t have to wait for anyone and if I feel like leaving I can. I always have a cell phone with me(never on in the woods) in case there is an unfortunate problem. I also ALWAYS let someone know where I am hunting.

I hunt alone...all by myself......I have to squeeze in every trip to the woods, and it' s easier to go without others..

You guys kill me with this whole " solitude" thing. I love to hunt and when I' m actually hunting I prefer to be alone or have my 4 year old with me. But I rarely go to the field without either my dad or brothers. To me there' s nothing like having your buds with you when you " WHACK" something or to just BS with on the way to and from my hunting area.

Ausie, yes it' s a long walk. The other morning I could have shot a doe out my bedroom door. She was on my deck eating apples off a tree, at the corner of my house. Luckily I was wearing my camo slippers or she would have busted me.;)

Usually hunt alone. I' ve got a couple of buddies that spend about $1000/year on gear, etc., but would rather sit up at the local tavern than go out into the woods. Doesn' t make much sense, huh?

RE: How many hunt alone?

I would say I usually end up alone about 80-90% of the time. Most of the guys I hunt with barely make it out anymore[:' (] We used to all be diehards...from the bow opener, to the very last day. They usually end not even bowhunting at all, and just making it up to the camp for opening week of rifle season. I enjoy hunting by myself, but if I had the choice, I' d choose hunting with someone. My buddies and I had some great times when everyone hunted hard, regardless of what season it was. And like FH said, I also love the camp atmosphere!
:D

RE: How many hunt alone?

I hunt alone. It my meditation time. My spiritual time. My time with God and nature. Sounds silly I know but it' s true. Uncle Ted' s right. It recharges my soul to be out there. If there' s someone else with you, you spend all your time chatting back and forth and lose the opportunity to soak it all in. Now having said that, this year I will be hunting a friend' s farm and he doesn' t let anyone hunt there alone. And I will be taking my wife and stepson out during shotgun season and guiding them in hopes of them both killing thier first deer. But I do love my solo time bow hunting.
