Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
I just purchased 2 API Baby-Grand treestands to add to my other 2 API treestands. The treestands were in excellent quality just like my first 2 except for the made in Tawain tag. This simply made me furious. I couldn' t help but think of the several hundred people who lost there American jobs so that Outland Sports could send the jobs overseas and make probably another $2 profit on each stand. Sorry API or Outland Sports or who ever now owns this company you have lost my business. If we as American consumers stand by and watch our jobs go overseas and continue to support companies that do this, our jobs very well may be next!!!! So I am going to return the 2 API treestands and purchase 2 Summit stands. My 2 cents!!

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
I' m with you on this one.Rocky boots did the same thing.Made in USA in Ohio and built up a good rep than ran out of the country for higher profits.

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Yep, I knew this. If you notice in the major hunting catalogs now........API is an " imported" stand. I won' t trust my life to any overseas made stands.

Where are Gorilla stands made?

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Good topic here. For the record I buy summit stands.;)We as americans and or hunters should boycott more products because of corporate greed. When I heard rocky moved overseas,I e-mailed them and told them what I thought.I also told them I heard the quality has gone down since the move. They e-mailed back and gave me a bunch of bs but at least they know how I felt.

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Thought API was out of outlands hands now? Heard Paul
took it back I could be wrong but Jeff Quadi that used to work for Lohmans said that!:) |
RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Check out the Big Shot made by Buck Shot Stands. They are made here in Wilmington NC. I had one and someone liked it better then me and stole it out of my work van. They are very good stands. The safest I have ever been in.

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Looks like last years API stand was my last too, and for those rocky boots I have been looking at for the last two turkey seasons....well not now!
Thanks for the notice guys. |
RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
just can' t trust a foreign made stand that I' m trusting with my life Like was said before -corporate greed is really playing hardball on our own workforce. Another thing--should there be an accident with one of these foreign products how hard would the liability issues be being as made out of country. Just a thought.

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Thanks for all the replies. It' s nice to see that I am not the only one who feels this way!!
|
RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
I wouldn' t buy another API stand even if my dad was making them. I have a baby grand that wobbles so bad I don' t feel safe standing up in the thing. Check out Lone Wolf, quality stands made in the USA.

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Hankfan-
Looking forward to you posting some Southern WV bruisers soon....good mast might make it tricky for us! I support you through and through....be American, buy American! Besides that...go Summit, they are pure quality. Hell Hankfan...if you want to go even further, you could buy WV and get yourself a CSS bow like I did! Good luck on the 18th.....look forward to seeing some pics from your neck of the woods! |
RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
In addition to silnetly boycotting them--which they' d never know--write them a letter detailing why you are returning these stands and won' t buy any more. If enough people did this, maybe some companies would think twice before doing the same thing.

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
I had a pair of LaCrosse burlys for years and I love them, I think they were made in Wisconsin. Last year I ordered LaCrosse diamondback snake boots and I was disgusted when they had a Made in China sticker.[:@]

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Maybe I am wrong but it was my understanding that you could no longer buy API stands even if you wanted to....unless you bought them from Cabelas or Bass Pro. The local shop owner told me that someone bought out everything that went along with the API name but that new company was not going to be producing treestands anymore.
Anyone care to verify this? |
RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
you know this post really really really made me mad. this is only directed at the people that won' t buy another stand thats not made in america because they dont' feel safe in something from another country you people are sick those people work their asses off just to make enough money for their family they will probably work harder then any overweight probably on drugs mcdonalds fed american anyday so next time you think about the quality of american made things think again. now i don' t agree with corporations moving their stuff to other countries to take advantage of those people and thats why i would not buy something like that but don' t say its because you dont' feel safe thats just ridicolus

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
FOR THE RECORD......
API is/was owned by Outland Sports, who bought out Paul Meeks the org. inventor of API. Outland also owned Lohman, Fealther Flex, Blueridge, Big River calls and another company or two. Outland went out of business and took all those companies down the tube. Right now they are in the process of being bought out. Bass Pro and Cabelas got together and leased the name and patents for API and THEY started having the stands made over seas. So if you have a gripe, blame those two companies for selling out to cheap labor. At this point Outland nor the now defunct API can be blamed for the quality of their stands since Bass Pro and Cabelas are the companies that are actually maketing the stands. If Outland is bought out as they are supposed to be, this could all change in the near future. |
RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Hankfan, I totally agree and am known around work as they guy who tries to buy only US. It' s hard to do and sometimes there' s no other choice than to buy foreign, but I try my best. I don' t understand how people can complain about low unemployment and then make NO effort to support the companies that haven' t packed up and split- Like Levi' s did. Laid off 5000 employees and set up shop overseas.
Get this, last week I went to buy an electric smoker my co-worker had been raving about. I go to Wally world and find the one recommended. Brinkmann- couldn' t find anywhere on the box where it was made, so I opened it up and found the buried owners manual- still no " made in..." , So I write down the # and call them. They said their vertical pits are made in Louisiana and the horizontals in Tennessee (I think). I asked them if they made it in the USA, then why not put it on the box??? no reply. When I assembled it today I did have to peel a " made in China" [X(] sticker off of the two wire grills and the water pan. As a country we better watch out and not piss off the Chinese. If they ever get mad at us and stop sending us our shoes, we' ll be barefooted in no time[:o]. |
RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Actually adam if you buy the products overseas you' re just making a rich greedy corporation richer. They move to boost their profits because they don' t want to pay Americans a fair days wage. They do have the right to move, but we do have the right to boycott.
|
RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
no no germain i never said i agree with them moving overseas i also believe thats its wrong what i was upset about is the fact that people won' t buy something because somebody other then americans make it because being a manager of a hotel my housekeeping staff is 100% hispanic and let me tell you they work harder then anybody i' ve ever seen and the quality of their work is amazing so thats it

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
I think you guys are missing the point here. Lot' s of corporations may be greedy but the real issue here is the trade imbalance the powers at be allow to continue. As long as our beloved government allows countries like China to send in billions more dollars worth of merchandise than we export the problem will never end. If that makes me an isolationist, then so be it. I am not defending the corporations who move operations overseas, but you know what? They are just playing by the rules. There is no way we as Americans can compete with cheap labor overseas as long as we allow the current trade imbalance to exist. This also has nothing to do with which country has harder workers. That' s a bogus argument. In many sweatshops overseas the company will just get rid of you if there is even a hint that you may not be carrying your weight, and replace you with another clone making 2 bucks a day who is probably already standing outside waiting for his " big" chance. Conditions are so bad in many countries people will do anything for next to nothing just so they can feed their families, or try to. As far as boycotts...Sorry on that one too guys. They just don' t work period. Yeah, we can all give it a try but they end up failing for many reasons, chief among them that most people really don' t care and won' t support one. Even if we here on the BBS band together to make an impact our numbers are so small it ends up being insignificant. The other problem with boycotts...Just try going with the " I only buy American routine" and see where you are. You won' t be watching TV, or driving a car (even our beloved " American" cars have foreign made components in them), or listening to CD' s, or you name it. We are losing more and more manufacturing jobs in this country and there is no end in sight until the playing field is leveled out and we are not taking in billions more in goods than we ship out.

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
I just got back from BassPro, and according to them, they DO NOT own the API stands.

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Lone Wolf is made right here in the good Ol'
U S of A !!! |
RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
So is Summit ! I wish they made a ladder stand .
I do own a ladder stand made in Taiwan. I didn' t know that when I ordered it. Jimmymac covered the issue well. Buerocrats suck. We were sold out years ago by President Bush (Sr.) when he signed the Free Trade Agreement. Since then the imbalance tilted steeper towards our borders. Aren' t we sick of voting for the " lesser of two evils" ? My 2 cents ! |

RE: Just Purchased My Last API Treestand!!!!
Roman, I' m with you on the lesser of two evils crap. Most of these guys are career politicians and their main concern is how to get re-elected. Term limits would go along way towards rectifying the apathy among our elected officials. They may actually start working for us again...You know, like their supposed to. I won' t hold my breath on this one either. Makes me feel pretty helpless sometimes.
