How quiet is your Patriot???
Well, my new bow is shooting wonderfully and faster then anything I am used to. My 30 yard shots hit hard on a straight line (no more arc). Speed like that is a nice bonus for short draw archers. I also have it up to 67lbs and I don' t flail like a moron pulling it back.
Here is the rub When I shot the bow indoors it was almost scarey quiet........still is. But when I go outside and shoot I hear a TWANG on every release. It sounds loud to me but I shot with a friend tonight and he said it was pretty quiet. All bolts are tight and I removed every accessory one at a time to see if that was it. No change. How do you guys rate your Pats on quietness???? It is still smooth as silk and faster then a rabbit but that TWANG is bugging me. Am I just being a perfectionist?? or do I have to address this problem because no one else hears a thing from their Pat. My setup is 67lbs 27" draw peep tube Copper John Dead Nuts 5 pin NAP 4000 Drop Away Hush Kit PSE Carbon Force Extreme 200' s 100 grain tips 4" vanes |
RE: How quiet is your Patriot???
My ' 02 single cam Pat is super quiet with cat whiskers on the string and cable and the added limb savers. My ' 03 pat Dually is not as quiet as my single but is very much acceptable for hunting. I recently moved the Bowtech VibraBlocks down to the limb pockets as suggested by others and it did make a notable difference. I' ve never tried the Sims string leaches and compared them to cat whiskers but some day I' ll give it a go. Good luck this season, Russ.

RE: How quiet is your Patriot???
Get rid of the Hush Kit from Bowtech completely,Limb-Savers on the limbs, string leeches on the string, and I think you will see a major difference. It worked on my 03 SC Patriot...Bob

RE: How quiet is your Patriot???
Yeah the Hush Kit isn' t bad for someone who doesn' t feel like shelling out extra cash for aftermarket silencing stuff, but the SIMS new Super Leeches are IMO much better than the Hush Kit " Stars"
For some reason depending on the bow they seem to work better than others........my Pro38 Dual Cam was quiter with NOTHING on the string that the Hush Kit silencers because one was loose and buzzing. If you want a super quiet bow, scrap the " Stars" , and get a pack of Super Leeches. 2 on the string , and 1 on the cable and one on the inside portion of the string. Also slide the Vibrablocks to the limb pockets and get a set of Stealth Limbsavers and place them at the point where the thick end of the limb meets the thin part of the limb taper. And loose the tube peep!! [X(] You don' t need it with a balanced bowstring like BowTech uses. Try a Tru-Peep " Super Hunter" |
RE: How quiet is your Patriot???
Peep tube?? Do you mean the rubber tubing that lines up your peep when you draw? If so I would change that " variable" on your setup. That in itself is noisey and (although you don' t need it) it unnecessarily robs you of some speed. I took the tube off completely and it made no difference in sound so I put it back on. Maybe I will try a new peep with no tube. |

RE: How quiet is your Patriot???
Does anyone here know why my bow sounds so quiet indoors as compared to outside??

RE: How quiet is your Patriot???
Atlasman,
I noticed the same thing on my MQ1. Indoors, ninja quiet, but outdoors, a slight twang. I' m figuring that it has something to do with air pressure or humidity, or something like that. I' ve also noticed that outdoors, some days it seems to be quieter than other days. I' m not going to blow out a brain cell trying to figure it out, though. I use catwhiskers and I have one leech on the cable. The cable leech does make a difference. I' d had people stand 15 yards away, to the side of course, and they say that they can' t really hear the bow go off. It works for me. Good luck, Charlie |
RE: How quiet is your Patriot???
I totally agree with Matt with the exception of the leeches.
I put cats whiskers on my DC Pat cut them to about the size of a 1/2 dollar then slid them up against the serving. In doing just that I gained a few fps over the usual position that you put them plus they took that twang out of the string. |
