Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Ok positive thing my hunting land I planned on using for archery has changed to a spot closer to home. I scout this area since I hunt there smoke pole season. No big cause for alarm.
The only problem is permanent stand is not recomended by land owner - spot I would hunt is close to neighbor' s land and said yes hunt it just don' t put a stand in unless I want to take it down before rifle season. So I need an affordable climber. What do you use? pros and cons? I have a really old climber that is not as safe as I would like. I am thinking something with seat and platform to stand on? Ease of assebling to climb in the am helpful as well. I am looking for some suggestions before heading to Cabela' s new store to look/buy one. Help appreciated. |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Lone Wolf sit-n-climb here, I love it, but they are probably more than what you want to pay.
For the money, I recommend Summit or Ol Man. Don' t pinch pennies when it comes to something you trust your life in. |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
I know I' ve heard alot about them being outta business , but I own an API. It' s a wallyworld version of the grand slam called the cable cat. I have hunted for 25 years and have seen and used many stands but am willing to say this is the most comfy and reliable to date .I see in the recent Cabela' s that the same version (with chain instead of cable) is available @149 . IMHO the best stand in that price range. Although I don' t recommend it I' ve been guilty of snoozin in mine and have no worries of falling(I do wear the harness)!!!! Hope this helps

RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
I had been using an API Bowhunter climber up until this season. The bankruptcy/going out of business issue though with API had me a little leary about using one of their stands so I picked up a Summit Revolution this past summer. I have only had a few scouting occasions to use it but I have to say that I am pretty darn happy with both the design and its overall ease of application. The cable/cable lock system is as close to idiot-proof as it gets and the stand really is quite stable when you are climbing the tree and after you settle in.
My only real " complaint" , if you could call it that, is that I wish I would have went with one of the new Backpacker models, the Bullet and Broadhead. That new fold-away design makes them much more compact to carry and store. |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Another vote for the Lone Wolf![:-]

RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Summit! Hands down one of the best climbers on the maket....maybe the best. Rock solid and, like Frank said, nearly idiot proof.
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
i have a summit and love it. i only use climbers when i really have too
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
I also have a Summit and absolutely think it' s the best thing since sliced bread.....love it!
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Summit Revolution. Can' t beat it. Idiot proof is very right. I' m an idiot, and I can set it up while blindfolded ;)
No knobs, pins, scews, etc. I like he revolution because of the high weight capacity, and it' s layed back and pretty comfortable for an all day sit. It' s also very quiet while climbing. Jay |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
I just bought a Summit Viper XLS. Haven' t had an opportunity to try it out yet I had lots of people reccomend it.

RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
summit viper xls. the best never rest
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Strongbuilt Sniper Climbing tree stand.
My first and only, used on my 1 and only hunting trip, seems fine to me. It has a gun rest but for bow-hunters (I do both) it can be avoided just by bringing the feet stand up closer to the butt rest... unless you shoot sitting (I can' t) then I would NOT recommend it. It' s only 99.99 at basspro.com http://www.basspro-shops.com/servlet...rTarget=browse |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Summitt cobra XLS, no complaints.

RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
I use a Summit Viper. Had it for 3 years. Works great, nice and quiet and I love it.

RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
:DI use a BIG SHOT by Buck Shot Treestands. It is an aluminum sit down-stand up type stand. The seat slides so you can face toward the tree or away from the tree. It has a neat padded backrest/gunrest that is fully adjustable, which may be removed for bowhunting. I have hunted out of it for 7 or 8 years and it' s very comfortable. They have several versions available now as well as accessories, such as bow holders, gun holders, drink holders, fleece seat covers, camo skirt, etc. Another thing I like is that they have all the parts available if you ever need them.;)

RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Ol' Man one of the quietest and probably the most comfortable
one on the market:D;) |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Just bought my first climber two months ago. A Warren and Sweat Master Climber. it was only 79 bucks and I had a 50 dollar gift certificate. for the price I paid....what can I say. It works. But the knobs arn' t that easy to use, you can' t hook to a very large tree, it is only 17 inches wide and I' m fairly large. the thing I like the lease is changing from he climbing position to the hunting position requires manipulation of wingnuts. I figure I' ll carry some extras just in case.

RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?

Another vote for the Lone Wolf Sit & Climb here!
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
For all day hunting in one spot, I like my BuckShot Mag best.
If you want to move around or pack your stand a long distance, The Lone Wolf sit & climb is hard to beat. Sag. ![]() |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
LoggyBayou when walking the long haul. 12lbs It' s the elite light or something. Anyway it' s quick, easy and light as heck! more than 5hrs on the tush and you feel it though!
Summit Cobra when a short walk and all day sitting.23lbs Beware of falling asleep in seat! By the way.....Summit makes VERY good stands as you can see from above but they are heavy! O and bulky. The new bullet might be the ticket. Basicly what I' m saying is...(I don' t need a free hat):D From a backpakers standpoint. 12lbs and 23lbs on your back can feel different no matter what. But you could center that 23lbs up between your shoulder blades and closer to your torso, it wouldn' t be as bad. My summit hangs way low, and way out, pulling hard on the back. It needed to be fixed and maybe, just maybe that is why they now offer folding summits. That is why I think that if you get a summit, you should buy the folding style, like the bullet. JMHO ;) Good luck this season! |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Fran what Summit Cobra do you have that weighs 23 lbs? :D Did you get the one with optional granite seat? [:o] My Goliath weighs 22lbs. My Cobra weighs 17lbs. I think I' ll skip whatever option you have on that puppy.
I have always been open to different makes/models..........I just really enjoy and trust Summit' s quality and comfort. I am now on my 6th? different model and all have been great stands. I might look at other ones for comparison but I' ll probably always head back to Summit. |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
I' ve used a Timbertall Legend for the last 4 years, but picked up a new Summit Viper this summer. It' s the best stand I' ve used.

RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Some of the older summits are steel (heavier), the newer ones are aluminum(much lighter). Unless you get the " classic" model, it' s still steel.
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Thanks everyone for your input I planned on looking at the Summits and some feedback on a few other options. I know I could have probably posted this on the equipment board but I really needed the archers feedback. Thanks

RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Quite like a few others, I choose the Summit has been a great asset to me thus far.

RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Matt, as soon as I read your post I had to start putting treestands on my scale. Now I' ve never done this before till today. That 23lbs was what I remember. It couldn' t have said less on the box but for some reason 23lbs sticks out.
Ok so I have two summit cobras down stairs...One is mine(all stripped down with nothing but steel (fresh coat of paint). And my fathers Cobra that has everything the stand came with. Both are the first cobra models as far as I know. They' re around 4 or 6 years old. Anyway my stand came in at 23lbs on the dot and my fathers with everything from the seat and straps drew a whopping 25lbs on the needle. Can you beleave that my LoggyBayou weighed in at 11.5 lbs If I remember right, the box said 12lbs. I can' t be sure. Now I looked around for the lead strips and its quite evident I do not have that feature on my stand thank god.;) |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
I have the Summit Cobra and no complaints. I use it for bowhunting and did want the Vipor as I had a hard time leaning over the rail and shooting. If I could do it again I think I would get the Vipor, but then again it is a little heavier by a couple pounds.
Good Luck |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
I' ve got a Warren & Sweat and it' s an awesome climber, but my next one will be a Summit.
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Summit. Hard to beat a summit climber!
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Fran,
Geez I forgot how much those first year steel Summit cable styles weighed! And I had one.......was it really THAT heavy!? I do remember it feeling VERY solid, and it still had the platform bars that ran parallel to the platform rather than across like the new Aluminum models. You need to get your hands on a NEW Cobra or Bushmaster........:) |
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Summit Goliath. So comfortable that you might have a hard time staying awake (at least I do):D
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Loggy Bayou
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Quick and Quiet by Woods and Water Inc.
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Wow I didn' t know the new cobras where much lighter. I better shut up when it comes to making reviews on summit stands.[:o]:D
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
Ol' Man and API
|
RE: Who uses a Climber? What kind do you use?
I use a Tree Lounge........just bought my son a Summit Viper Classic.......for $169.....it' s made of steel instead of aluminum, but he' s young and strong, he can carry it.[&:]
