Default The Hunt that Won' t Happen

Sad story for all you hunters out there.

Jan - Me and my best friend book an elk hunt with a group of good guys. We put our money where our mouth is and plunk down some cash.
Feb - We take a trip to the dominican with our wives
Mar - BOTH wives are now pregnant Due the end of OCT. No problem 6 weeks post trip.
Apr - Sept - We work out like crazy guys running 25 miles per week, biking 100miles per week, and shooting our bows nearly every day, purchase new bows, watch elk videos, and get progressively stoked up for this trip.
Last week - my friends wife goes into labor and is in the hospital[:' (] They stop the labor but she could have the baby any day. Most likely it will be next week while I' m out in CO shooting my elk.

So the guy is stuck at the hospital waiting for this baby to come that may not come for weeks or could be here today.....

The kicker is that he has some cousins and friends that he offered to give the trip to and NOBODY jumped at it. $1200 and nobody would even consider taking off and going with.

Um....doc....could you ...uh...C sec...uh...never mind, I' ll sit here and wait. WOW, good luck to your buddy the rest of his life....

Seriously....tough situation and of course the baby comes first over the hunt....even with my dedication to hunting.[:-] There will always be other opportunities to go elk hunting....? but the birth of your first, wow....a miracle that I have not had the honor of.........at 36, I may or may not.

I don' t know what you' ll were thinking, having unprotected sex with your wifes 9 months prior to a great hunting trip????? Surely this has taught you a lesson about planned parent hood and timing and hunting and all that.[&:]

You may consider trying to sell the hunt on e-bay or I think there is a hunting site (can' t remember the name) which is a subscription base of $100 where people can post deals on last minute hunts. Just a thought. You probably won' t recapture all your money back either way.

Congratulations. And as others have said family come first, so don' t ever feel bad about not being able to go.

Sorry to hear about your luck. I know what you are saying though. The wife and I went to Punta Cana Dominican republic and poof! Nice months later I have a daughter.

Rockytop - just like in hunting you have to take' em when you can get em!

Thank' s bob - The problem is that we leave this Friday from WI. IF anyone would like to make an offer for the trip and could meet us out there - email me! I' m sure that he would take $400 for the $1200 trip. But you better be in shape because you will be hunting with me and I have over 3000 miles on my bike and 250 miles on my running shoes this year.

Oh yea no crabby guys allowed! Smiles required!

congrates on the babies! Maybe me and the wife will have to go to the dominican republic we are having a hell of hard time getting pregnant. but were having fun trying though.

rockytop My thoughts exactly. My wife and I are thinking about having our second, and she gets SO mad when I try to plan it all around deer season. They really just don' t understand our madness. I just can' t imagine life without bowhunting, what do the non-hunters do in their spare time? What do they dream about? I' ll never know.
