Do you get better as the season goes on?

Last year I was so excited about bow hunting I got out in the stand so early that I couldn' t sit still for the rest of the evening. It was hot and there were mosquitos. I ended up getting busted a few times. As the season went on I got more patient and was able to sit still longer and had more oppurtunities.

Just wondering if anyone else experienced this. I feel like I' m too excited in the early season and as the seaon goes on I become a better hunter, become one with the woods more.

Does this happen to you?

YUP, sure do. That' s why I' m always glad for crop damage season... it gets the process started. Another thing, I get more comfortable climbing UP. Early on 15 or 16 feet looks high enough. Later in the season I don' t feel right until I get over 20.

Most of out permanent stands are 18-20 feet, if I' m climbing it is at least 25, usually 30. I don' t usually get antsy anytime during the season unless I haven' t been seeing anything. Nothing more disheartening than to sit for 2-3 days and not see any deer[:' (]

The last few years....my first few as a bowhunter, I haven' t seen many deer.... I believe that there aren' t many deer, on the public land I' m hunting...as far as, deer to hunters. I' d say that I don' t get better as the season goes on, but....more used to not seeing deer...instead I watch the birds, squirrels.....and an ocassional bobcat. Sometimes if it' s been several weeks w/o a deer sighting, I' ll bring a book. No bad outdoor experiances.....just different from the original plan.

Yep, I retune my patience as the season goes on.....by the time RUT rolls around I have developed the discipline and patience to pass on smaller bucks in hopes of THE BIG ONE showing up running a doe.;):D

Not me:)

On public land I pull out all the stops early ,and try to get one buck down as quick as I can. IMO every day I or another hunter steps into the woods the odds go down. And the more more we use a stand or similar routes through the woods we just educate them buggers:)

Sure, the rut is a brite spot in the season - a clean slate as you will.

I have relied on those magic Rut weeks to bail me out before, but I try not to do that as much.

Besides I have a Looong season - and I get tired, hard to get up, to cold, to wet...etc, etc.

But come the opener I am all piss and vinegar:D

In some ways yes, some no. I get my " routine" down the longer into the season I go, but I also can get lazy the longer the season drags on depending on how many tags are filled.

I' d say I am at my best the first few days of the season, and then when the rut comes along. Nothing like exitement to keep you patient and observant.

I tend to get sloppy as the season goes on. I am more focused at the beginning, and then I start to get lazy.
