String Silencers (which one)

My old Bear Puffs finally wore out so I took them off and the bow is suddenly so loud that it almost scred me..
I need to buy new string silencers..Are some better than others or are they all about the same ???
Thanks

RE: String Silencers (which one)

I would say that String Leeches are about the best for silencing the string. That said, they also seem to be the most delicate and don' t seem to last very long. After replaing countless leeches, I went back to the cat whiskers and will stick with them from now on.

In this case I am following the crowd. Cat whiskers last a long time and quiet the string down. Leaches are nice, but don' last nearly as long.

my $0.02

String leeches here, no problem on my bow of a short life. I used to use bow puffs too, catwhiskers seemed to do little for me.

I also like the string leeches, never had a problem
and they do a great job of eliminating string
noise with minimal speed loss (1-2 fps).

I use the leeches personally. They are both relitivly inexpensive. You could buy both the leeches and whiskers for around $15 bucks or less. I say buy both and test them out. What is best on my bow or someone elses may not be the best for you. Good luck!!

My Beaver Balls are great. Extremely quiet, durable and double as wind indicators. I' ve had the same set on the same bow for over a year and they still look like new. IMO nothing else on the market quiets a bow string better. I' ve tried them next to Cat whiskers, string leaches, etc...etc. and I always come back to my Balls! LOL

I like the trantulas(sp?). They are easy to install and have lasted me for 4 years now.

use either the cat wiskers or the string leeches they both work great but the cat wiskers will last longer and are much cheaper than the leeches.

I use leaches but am curious about the " bow jacks" .
Has anyone tried them or know anything about them, like how much they weigh or how much they effect your bow speed?

Same suggestions here. Either rubber " cat whiskers" or string leeches are what most of our customers ask for and utilize. Personally, I just throw on some rubber eliminator buttons and get a little extra speed as well as a quiet bowstring.

PABowhunter,
Can you please explain how eliminator buttons help you gain speed?
Thanks,

RE: String Silencers (which one)

They work in the same fashion that those little screw-on speed balls do. By placing at least two of them on each end of the string approximately 2 to 3 inches down/up from the cams you can gain a few fps. The engineering reasoning is somewhat beyond my ability to explain but I believe it has something to do with capitalizing on the specific harmonics that your string generates.

Now, as most folks are aware, by moving any string silencers closer to the cams and farther from the center of the string you tend to decrease their effectiveness at reducing bowstring noise. So, you are sacrificing a little here to get that extra bit of speed. However, I have not found it to be any great amount and the bowstring noise is still dampened enough for my tastes in a hunting bow.

Hope this helps.

With ' My Favorite Maritn' , I went through 2 sets of string leeches in 2 weeks. My bowstring just cut them in 2. I switched over to the cat wiskers over a month ago and haven' t had a problem since. I shoot 60 to 80 arrows a day. Both products quieted my string just fine. Enough said.

Anybody ever double up their cat whiskers? I bought 2 sets cause they were cheap. They don' t quiet my string as well as the leaches but I thought doubling them up would help. Anyone ever try it?

I like string Leeches also. One note: Everyone is just saying " String Leeches" . You want to make sure they are the new " Stealth String Leeches" . There are alot of old leeches out there, and they don' t have the durability of the new Stealths!

Good Luck!

I' ve used cat whiskers in the past, but 3 weeks ago I put on the new leeches with kevlar and they have been holding up great.

I double up mine, but I' m a newbie..........what do I know? :)

RE: String Silencers (which one)

You can double up on them but you must remember that you will loose speed for each one. If speed is no concern add them.
