This satrurday was opening day here is southern California. Anyway my dad was hunting and a doe spotted him in his treestand and after staring at him for a while it turned to walk away and started making a scrachy hissing kind of noise does anyone no what that is. Remember these are Mule Deer not Whitetal.

Sure, the deer blew at your Dad....whitetails will violently blow air out their nostrils in order to due several things....alarm other deer of possible danger.....try to spook whatever it is they are unsure. Usually a deer will blow when it sees something that alarms them but they' ve yet to smell the intruder.
A times, if you blow back at the deer you can fool them into thinking you were simply another deer and it may calm them...this doesn' t always work but once a deer blows at you, chances are it' s gone....

i' ve had doe w/t' s HISS at me on two occasions...i think they do it when they get annoyed...one time it was in the very early moring...and i was slug hunting...it was a doe with 3 fawns....i think they pissed her off or somethin...and the other time was when i just got done shooting at a doe in the bowhunting season last year...i was getting down and i knew she hadn' t gone far and she started hissing at me....it creeps me out when they do that...i think they must get mad at me or somethin

I have also witnessed bucks blow snot out of their nostrils soon after getting up out of their beds in the afternoon, or when chasing does.
for no other reason it seems but to clear it out?????
One of the deer I shot last year was blowing crap out like crazy as he exited the bedding area not far behind a couple does.
